Chapter 29

"Is that girl me?"

I forced the words out of my mouth, instantly regretting asking. My heart pace picked up as I stared back at Pierce, waiting for him to say anything. The matter of seconds that past felt like an eternity. Was I just about to embarrass myself completely? I didn't know how to react if it was me or if it wasn't about me. If it was about me, where was this going to lead us? If it wasn't about me, I knew Pierce would never let me live this down. 

Pierce's eyes bored into mine before he looked down at the ground biting his lip. Pierce was silent for a moment before looking back up at me. "Aspen-" He started but was soon interrupted by Pierce's phone going off once again. I glanced over to his phone to see the screen had Mercury's name plastered across it. Pierce's face immediately went cold once he picked up the phone.

"What?" He gritted into the phone, not wanting to deal with Mercury. I felt my heart sink in my chest as I just wanted an answer. Blinking slowly, I looked down at the ground before sliding out of the spot I stood and putting the first aid kit away. 

"Pierce please!" Mercury's voice cried through the phone and I looked back at Pierce who was filled with frustration. His eyes shut tightly as he listened to Mercury's cries through the phone, before muttering "Fine." before hanging up the phone.

"What was that about?" I asked, swallowing a lump in my throat. I prayed that nothing would be awkward between us, but I couldn't help but continue to rack my brain for if it was me. A part of me liked the idea of Pierce and me together...I didn't know why but somewhere in the back of my brain it was shouting at me to make a move. Pierce ran into my bedroom, shutting the door shut to get dressed quickly before opening the door when he was done and gathering his stuff together. 

"Mercury...she's hysteric, I have to go over to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid.." Pierce trailed off, running a hand through his hair as his eyes flickered from the phone screen to me. 

"You can't be serious." I stared at him dumbfounded "You aren't seriously going to go back to her Pierce. She's suspended for christ's sake! When are you going to learn she is manipulative and this is how she gets to you!"

"She's tried to kill herself before because of me and I'm not going to let her try it again!" Pierce shouted back at me, his energy became filled with anger. His eyes became dark, his jaw clenched, and his fist was clutched at his side. 

"Pierce don't you see it! This is what she does! She says this shit because she knows you'll come running!" I exclaimed, trying to get Pierce to see right through her but he was blind "Do not go running to her. She will win and you'll never get away from her."

"I'll see you at school." Pierce headed out of my bedroom and walked down the steps. I didn't hesitate to run after him, following behind in his footsteps. We had reached the end of the staircase and I continued to call out to him, before grabbing his arm as he reached for the door.

"So that's it? You're just going to leave?" I tested, aggravation filling my tone "You're just going to leave me and go running after her? Whatever happened to you being done with her? I can't believe you would seriously do this again." 

Pierce's crystal grey eyes turned dark, his eyes staying on my mind for a moment. My grasp on his arm didn't release as I waited for him to say anything. I wanted him to stay and not go back to her. Mercury called and Pierce always came running back to her, he was stuck in her games of manipulation and she had him wrapped around her finger. I knew why Pierce was going back, the guilt of her trying to kill herself a couple of years ago had never left him. He didn't want to be the reason she did, he couldn't live with himself for what he did to her.
