Work In Progress #4 Hogwarts AU

                            A Close Bond
A half-blood Hufflepuff named Silver walked over to the Hufflepuff common room she was a first year and had already befriended a couple of Ravenclaws and Gryffindoors the Slytherins seemed to isolate themselves from the other houses. Silver was rather friendly with everyone she was merely 11 and had light pale skin and light brown hair she wore glasses that covered her dark blue eyes, she wore her Hufflepuff robes underneath that she wore a yellow shirt and black jeans and a jacket around her waist, she had her wand tucked into her sleeves, she had turned the corner and was met with a gruesome sight, a couple of Slytherins were attacking, another Slytherin?! This was unusual but Silver thought nothing of it and decided to defend the Slytherin that was being attacked she ran in front of the Slytherin guarding them preventing the other Slytherins from reaching them "what do you think you're doing? Bullying someone, especially one of your own isn't right" she snapped at them the other Slytherins were 3 boys and held their wands pointed directly at her she took out her own wand and then they began to shout, cursing each other with spells and jinxes as well as hexes. Silver felt a hand grab her arm and she lost concentration to look at the Slytherin she was protecting, the Slytherin has black hair and a claw mark over her right eye which is a pale white while the other eye is green she was bleeding from her arm and her cheek was swollen as well as blood pouring out of her mouth staining her chin "you have to get out of here, I'll be fine" the Slytherin told her "I'm not leaving you alone with these gits " Silver said "CRUCIO!!" The 3 Slytherin boys yelled pointing their wands at both of them Silver closed her eyes and hugged the Slytherin girl in front of her making sure that she didn't see what was about to happen but then she opened her eyes again as she didn't feel any pain. Then she saw someone in front of her "Headmistress McGonagall" she whispered "Silver take Shard and go to Madam Pomfrey, I'm going to have a stern talking with these boys" Silver nodded and looked at Shard "Shard, I'm gonna carry you and we're going to go to the infirmary okay?" Shard nodded blinking slowly she coughed up blood.Silver took off her robe and wiped the blood off Shard's mouth she carried Shard bridal style and ran to the infirmary she had her and Shard's wand in her pocket, she reached the infirmary, breathing heavily, but at that point Shard had already fallen asleep in her arms "great Merlin!" Madam Pomfrey exclaimed "quick lay her down on the bed" Silver did as she was told and laid Shard down on the infirmary bed she watched as Madam Pomfrey started healing Shard "is she going to be okay?" Silver asked Madame Pomfrey let out a sigh as she gave Shard the healing potion "she'll be alright, but tell me Silver who did this?" she asked "3 Slytherin boys" Silver replied she looked at Shard for a moment and held her hand hoping that would provide her some comfort "those boys don't like muggleborns, I saw the look of disgust on their faces when Shard was placed into Slytherin, the other Slytherins are good kids they may be pure bloods but I don't think they'll follow in their parents footsteps" "why does everyone hate Slytherin?" Silver asked "Well a lot of dark wizards were from Slytherin and the other houses make assumptions that all Slytherins are evil that's why Hufflepuffs are good friends with Slytherins they're not the ones who judge others based on rumors" "but not all Slytherins are evil, they're just different and they use magic to its fullest it just depends on what they use it for and their choices" Silver protested just as Madame Pomfrey was about to speak, Shard groaned and opened her eyes. "Where am I?" She said as she tried to get up but Silver placed a hand on her shoulder Madame Pomfrey went to get a healing potion from one of the cabinets "don't try to move, your still healing"she said softly. Shard let out a huff of annoyance before she laid back down "that was pretty stupid, what you did back there I could have handled it "she told Silver "they could have hurt you" "still you didn't have to intervene, it wasn't your fight" Shard protested "I wanted to help you, I couldn't just stand by and do nothing as you were getting attacked" Silver said. Both girls stayed quiet for a moment until Madam Pomfrey came back with the healing potion. Shard drank the potion, she could feel herself getting better and the pain in her chest was gone she looked at Silver, and let out a sigh "Silver" she began Silver looked at her "You're an idiot but thank you for trying to help me against those boys and I'm sorry I got angry at you" she said underneath her breath she didn't look at Silver. Silver brightened up at that and a wide smile spread itself across her face she nodded "I'll see you later and here's your wand back" she said as she handed Shard her wand back "thanks" Shard said, she laid her head back down on the pillow and was immediately out like a light, Silver looked at her for a moment before she smiled and then left the infirmary. Dinner was loud and full of positive conversations in between eating delicious food. Silver was talking amongst the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws she had met a nice Ravenclaw girl named Rosa and her brother Gray who was in Griffindoor, she had just finished talking to them when she saw Shard walk over to their table. Their eyes locked, green met blue before Shard tore her gaze and looked away she seemed out of place and was about to walk away but Silver didn't let her she grabbed her arm. Shard froze, her body became rigid and she pushed her away, an angry expression on her face then her eyes widened once she realized who it was "Silver, I I'm-" she was cut off as Silver spoke "it's fine, come on" Silver said cheerfully she grabbed Shard by her hand and dragged her to the table where Rosa and Gray were waiting. "Rosa, Gray, this is Shard" they waved at Shard and Shard did the same then her and Silver sat down and an uncomfortable silence filled the air "so, what's with the eye?" Gray asked bluntly while Rosa face palmed "I'm sorry about my brother he doesn't know when to shut up" Rosa said to Shard as she proceeded to nudge Gray in the shoulder she gave him a look and he nodded understanding "sorry" he said reluctantly "it's, it's fine" Shard said quietly but her eyes told something else it was not fine and it was not okay to ask someone a personal question like that. Silver looked at Shard "are you alright?" She said softly she was about to reach over and place a hand on Shard's shoulder, Shard flinched and backed away from her "I'm fine, ok" she snapped "I was just worried about you" Silver said her eyes downcast and she withdrew her hand. Shard realized she had made a mistake so she swallowed her pride and apologized "sorry" she said as she crossed her arms and looked at the table "I just don't like being touched" she told her and Silver nodded. Rosa and Gray stared at them, eyes widened and mouths open they stared in between the two of them, then the other grabbed their mouth and shut them. "I've never seen a Slytherin apologize before" Rosa said "same with me, then again all Slytherins are different". Shard noticed the 3 Slytherin boys from earlier glaring at her, she looked away "I have to go" she spoke quickly and stood up, about to leave but Silver held her back "you should at least eat something before you go" she told her giving her a bit of food. Shard took the food and ate it quickly "happy?!" She said exasperated she didn't want to be so harsh since Silver did help her but she wanted to make sure that those 3 boys didn't bother her or the siblings she didn't know why she cared about the 2 siblings she didn't even talk to them but she liked Silver and was going to make sure that those 3 boys weren't going to hurt her, she owed her that at least. "Yes, very" Silver said "good now I really have to go" she told her. Shard left and went to the Slytherin common room, she let out a sigh and just decided to get ready for her classes, she grabbed her backpack and went to her first class which was Potions, the wizarding world was relying more on muggle things like muggle school necessities, muggle technology and muggle weapons to at least protect the students in case of emergency. Shard's uncle had taught her how to use weapons She had learned how to use knives, axes and guns at a young age. Her aunt taught her self defense, they trained her to make sure she'd be ready for whatever might happen in the wizarding world, they knew that after her incident she would want to learn how to protect herself and they were rather surprised when she asked them to train her they reluctantly said yes and they taught her everything they knew. Her parents weren't pleased at all and scolded her aunt and uncle for teaching her how to fight afterwards they cooled down and accepted it but they made her promise to not resort to violence unless it was her last option, she agreed even if she didn't like it. Shard sat down in the back of the class and started taking notes, some of the students looked at her confused and weirded out when she was writing with led pencils and on a notebook instead of using a quill and parchment, she shrugged it off and continued writing. Hogwarts was being treated like an actual school now and students were still getting used to muggle things such as technology but they were adapting rather well. As soon as classes were done for the day she went to the Slytherin common room only to find herself surrounded by first year Slytherins. Shard was slammed into the wall "stay out of our way, you filthy mudblood!" The boy said Shard smirked "that you talking or your parents?" She asked and winced when he grabbed her by her hair "you don't belong in Slytherin" she shrugged it off she would have been satisfied being in Ravenclaw but the sorting hat made its choice "maybe she should have joined that useless pushover Hufflepuff" one of the boys laughed Shard kicked the boy away from her before running into the girl's common room "those damn jerks" she muttered softly before she looked at her eye, she had been crying blood she wiped it off then took a deep breath she introduced herself to some of the other Slytherin girls and they welcomed her "don't mind those pureblood boys" a short Slytherin girl with auburn red hair said "hi, I'm Ginger" she shook hands with Shard these girls didn't question her appearance and for that she was grateful. "Why are purebloods so mean?" Ginger asked "well not everyone is nice but hey we got each other so if they try anything we'll be prepared" Shard said then grew uncomfortable when they all stared at her "what?!" she asked before she felt someone pat her head, she looked up "Head mistress McGonagall" she replied and took a step away from her "Shard, walk with me" she said and Shard walked with her but not after shrugging her shoulders to the others she didn't know what the head mistress wanted from her either, they stepped into her office "so Shard, I understand that those Slytherin boys caused you some trouble" Shard nodded "you're parents already informed me of your 'condition' but don't be alarmed, nothing will happen to you while I'm here" McGonagall reassured her "wait, you know what I am?!" Shard said narrowing her eyes and looking at her cautiously "yes and I advise you keep yourself calm I mean you no harm, besides we'll discuss what to do later or now if you like, but can you explain what happens to you when you shift?" Shard nodded but looked around. The head mistress nodded before casting a spell "don't worry no one will hear now tell me about the night you first transformed" she said Shard took a deep breath "it all started one night I was at a sleepover with one of my friends and we all were camping outside then the sky got dark and something appeared I didn't know what it was but I was scared the thing saw me and attacked, clawing my eye it hurt a lot and I don't know what happened next, I woke up the next morning with bandages on my face and a broken arm, my parents were arguing with my aunt and uncle which worried me, then my uncle pulled me aside and began to talk about magic and about what had attacked me then he told me what I was" McGonagall nodded "I couldn't believe it at first but after the first transformation I realized he was right, I was terrified out of my mind I was just 10 years old" Shard continued and wiped at her eyes "My aunt and uncle taught me how to fight and use weapons so that I wouldn't be completely defenseless despite my parents approval, I'm good at fighting but wouldn't resort to using it unless I need to" "do you have any weapons with you?" McGonagall asked her
"yeah, I know weapons aren't allowed in school so they're all in this bag I'll let you take care of them" Shard said before she gave her a small backpack, she watched as the head mistress looked through it and sighed "Shard, when you transform due so in the forbidden forest I know that it's scary but the whomping willow is to small for a species of creature like you and I'll be confiscating this bag and returning it to your parents but you can keep 2 knives with you just for protection and nothing else" Shard nodded and choose her butterfly and Swiss Army knife "it's against the rules I know this but you have to at least have something with you in case you don't have your wand"
