After 20 years.....
I always wanted to fulfil my dreams and I have finally reached my goal, my dream of being a doctor. Though sometime this uniform may get sticky but never gets intolerable. Now though duty is hard due to the spread Covid-19 for which we are asked to take care of ourselves as well as the patients. The last time I saw my daughter was 3 months back. Though there are calls and video calls. She is 13 years old now, she is going to turn 14 this 11th of August 20 days from today. I don't know if I will be able to go home by then or not but I want to go. His thoughts were running wild when a report caught his eye the name read—Saffron Chatterjee, Covid-19 positive
Let's meet her. Her name feels awfully familiar.
He walked towards the patient's room with all his mask, gloves and other protections. Room no. 12.
The door opened and Edwin's muscle stopped working and he couldn't move as if he was being tied back. His eyes grew wide when he saw a lady at her 50s, connected to the medical wires and in pain and suffering.
When you said that you will meet me when I become a doctor I was extremely happy and waited for the day but this way. Why?
After years he felt like crying for the lady who had such a small but significant part in his life. He had a sudden urge to see her smile, hear her voice again.
He finished his work and walked back to his office took the phone and called his wife and asked her to pass the phone to the little angel of her life, his daughter.
"Hey Amber, How are you, love?"
"I am ok Dad...... How are you?"
"Tell your Mom to stop teaching you what to speak."
He could hear the giggle that came out from the little girl's lips to realise that her mother was caught red handed by her father.
" I told her Dad."
" Ok so you always wanted to know right that why is your name Amber and I always said that it is kept after someone special. You will get to meet her on your birthday ok?"
"Seriously Dad. Yeah! Thank you, Dad."
Edwin could sense the excitement in the voice of the little girl.
The call ended after a little while. Edwin kept his phone down and looked up at the ceiling.
15 days and you will be alright and fit to meet my daughter. This time it is me who is taking care of you Aunty Saffron. The table has turned Aunty. I will make you well soon. AFTER ALL YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE WHO REPENTED OVER THE THOUGHT OF MY DREAM'S BREAKING.
