the fourth special moment was by the middle of december, when i decided that i should meet his friends.

at first i didn't want to. opening up with luke had been already pretty hard and it took a long time, even if i liked being with him it took me some time to be around him. the idea of meeting new people still frightened me, i'd always be afraid to be boring or unwanted.

of course he insisted a whole week, blowing up my phone with text messages until i said yes. he said that as his girl best friend i had to meet his other best friends.

it was a normal saturday afternoon when he drove me to a certain micheal's house. at that time, i didn't know that michael would have later been one of the most important people in my life.

while he was driving i panicked. he held my hand an for the rest of the trip he said they would have loved me and that i shouldn't feel embarassed around boys because - i'm quoting the exact words - he was the only true male among them. i laughed, he suddenly made me feel calm. he had the ability to make me laugh in every situation.

i was surprised when michael opened the door. his hair was blue and he had one of those faces that you can never tell if they're being serious or not. there were other two boys, calum and ashton. i found out several things that day, like that ashton's laugh was even higher than luke's.

they didn't miss on telling me every embarrassing thing that ever happened to luke, like that he had called his teacher 'mom' when he was in third grade, when he was eleven he peed himself on the school bus and nobody sat next to him for a whole year and that when he was my age he stepped on a shit right before entering school and left smelly brown footsteps all over the school ground.

of course luke tried his best to protest or change the subject, but i was laughing so hard i couldn't even hear him.

then they decided to play video games and they let me pick one, michael offered to play with me but luke literally lifted me from the ground placing me next to him, without even saying a word.

"got it, she's taken" michael said, causing me to blush. he gave me the joystick and then hugged me from behind placing his hands on mine now heavily shaking. my breath stopped for a second, he didn't seem to notice how tensed i was.

calum obviously did, since he broke out in a loud laugh, i blushed even more. but then he said "i wish someone would hug me like that." i could feel that luke was smiling.

in the end ashton hugged calum since he continued complaining. he seemed happy about it. i beat luke at whatever videogame was, but i'm sure he let me win.

michael said he was hungry and that he wanted pizza, so i spoke up for the first time that day:

" my dad owes a little resturant, if we order there he won't let us pay."

"she's my new best friend now" said micheal with his mouth full of pepperoni pizza "y'all have been replaced by the amazing valerie."

for the first time, i felt like i was wanted. i didn't think i was out of place, everyone was being genuinely nice to me. i was happy. when me and luke stepped out of michael's house ( he was very disappointed i had to leave ) i hugged him. i didn't say it, but i was thankful.

" i knew they would love you." he said. i was so grateful for having him in my life.

if i ever had to make a list of pros of being alive, luke would have been on the first place.
