Chapter 2 ~ The misfortune in having a dancing best friend

"Good morning," Alec greets me, and I nod, smiling brightly at him. I slide my helmet on; I brought my own this morning on account of ruining my hair with the huge helmet last time. He took off speeding down the road and the smile didn't leave my face for the entire ride.
"Thanks for the ride," I say, sliding off the helmet and running a hand through my hair.
"No problem, your car will be ready by the end of the day," he says and I nod.
"Okay, thanks so much!"
"Stop thanking me, or I'll make you stop," he smirks and I roll my eyes.
"How would you do that, exactly?"
"I'd kiss you, it's pretty simple."
Boy that escalated quickly.
"Well aren't you forward?" I mutter under my breath. "My class is this way, thanks again." I say and take off running.
The day goes by quickly, and I was immediately able to get back in the teacher's good graces by turning in the homework without much reprimanding. I wait outside for my ride at the end of the day and read on my phone.
"Hey, do you need a ride?" Alec comes up and asks but I shake my head. On cue, a red Mercedes convertible pulls up blasting music and drawing the attention of a few students around school.
"Nope, I'm all set."
"Get in loser! We're going shopping!"
I hear my favorite familiar voice and climb into the car. "Who... is that hottie?" Valentina lowers her sunglasses a little, peering at Alec who just crossed his arms and winked at us flirtatiously.
"What up Mean Girls reference," she high fives me, the bangles stacked up on her arm clinking as she sped out of the school's driveway.

"Val, please stop dancing in the middle of the store", I demand but my dear best friend, Valentina, ignores me and continues doing spins and turns in the middle of Target.
"Val. Val. Valentina. Valentine. Tina."
I attempt to get her attention but her eyes are closed and she continues spinning and humming along to the music for her solo. I reach out to grab her arm but miss, throwing her off balance. She crashes straight into a rack of goldfish and I sigh.
"Val? You alive?" I ask, and I hear a muffled groan.
"Help me," she yelps and I laugh.
"You deserve it, I told you to stop dancing in the middle of the store," I point out and turn a corner, facing the rack of food.
"You're a horrible friend," Valentina replied over the aisle.
"I know, but you love my horrible self anyway."
"Need some help, love?" A new voice cuts in.
"Um, no thanks I'm good," I hear Val's voice and then a yelp of pain.
"Val, you good?" I turn around and see her clutching her ankle, leaning on a very attractive guy. He looked slightly familiar.
"Have I met you somewhere? You look familiar," I ask, slightly shy and Val shifts her weight from him onto me.
