Chapter Six~ The misfortune in overprotective brothers

“Ugh, Mr. Richards is making me make up that science test,” I complain to Alec as we walk down the hallway, ignoring the small glances being thrown our way.

“We’re lucky he even let us make it up, not just give us a zero,” he reminds.

It had been a week since our little adventure in the woods and as it turns out, they did use that horrendous school picture on the news, much to my horror. “Jeez, Carrie. I don’t even carry around these any books, what the hell do you need them for?” He complains. Since I couldn’t carry my books and navigate with my lovely, wonderful crutches, I had convinced Alec to carry them for me, and give me rides to school considering I couldn’t drive either. He was like my own personal slave.

“What are you doing this weekend?” He asks suddenly and I shrug.

“Sitting in a dark room and watching Netflix mostly, unless Val drags me off to be social,” I say

“Wow, you’re such a rebel,” he scoffs

“Of course, but it’s not like I can party hard with this stupid plaster cast as my best friend for the next six weeks,“ I remind him and he shrugs.

“Anyway, if you would like to ditch the continuous episodes of Orange Is The New Black, I’m have to babysit my four year old cousin. If you would like to join us for fish fingers and Disney movies, you’re more than welcome to join us,” he says

“Wow, fish fingers, that’s awful fancy Alec,” I taunt some more

“Well, only the best for you Princess,” he bows mockingly

“So what is this occasion, a date?” I ask teasingly, but out of the corner of my eye I see tints of red rise up in his cheeks.

“No. Why, do you want it to be?” He asks, wiggling his eyebrows at me.

“Are you asking me out on a date, Alec?” I laugh out loud and he rolls his eyes

“No! But Layla and I are going to watch Tangled, and Frozen and Brave. If you’re too cool for that, just say so,” he says

“Alec, I would love to join you on this date with your four year old cousin.” I tease him some more as we make our way down the steps, very slowly, and turn the corner. I lift my head up and freeze in my tracks.

“Hold this.” I hand him, my crutches and he takes them.

“I think you need these to walk,” he stares at them puzzled, but I ignore him.

“Will.” My voice comes out a whisper at first, but it doesn’t even matter because leant up against the wall, there’s a man in a Cameo uniform. “Will!” I shout a little louder, grabbing the attention of the surrounding people, considering this is the loudest I’ve ever spoken. I bet most of them are shocked that I even have a voice.
