Chapter 12

"Your royal highnesses I congratulate you both, her royal highness is with child." The royal physician said to both Charles and Diana.

Both Charles and Diana are delighted with what the royal physician informed them. They will have a child within the first year of their marriage.

"Can you leave us alone for a moment?"

"Yes your royal highness." The royal physician left Charles and Diana alone in their office in Kensington Palace.

"Did you hear that darling? We are going to be parents!" Charles exclaimed happily, excited that he will be a proud father of an heir to the throne soon.

"I can't believe it when the physician said it. I can't wait to proudly raise our child together." Diana said beaming with tears of joy.

Charles and Diana decided to hold off announcing the pregnancy to the public and only told their family to give way for their first scheduled public engagements as husband and wife. They only announced Diana's pregnancy to the public during the second trimester of her pregnancy.

Diana did her best to adapt as the princess of Wales in such short notice while experiencing severe morning sickness and mood swings everyday during her pregnancy. Charles had been supportive of his wife after the royal physician explained to him that what Diana's experiencing is normal and will pass over time.

However the royal family noticed the changes he did to support his wife's difficult pregnancy and they did not like it.

"Diana's changing Charles mama, he doesn't go to polo matches, rides his horse, hunt, become a vegan and he even sent his beloved dog Harvey to his close friend." Anne said to her mother the queen when she noticed her brother acting different when she last visited him.

"I will talk to him about it." The queen said and  asked her secretary to have an audience with her son.

Diana and Charles were doing a tapestry together that they will hang at the wall of their residence.

"We should put our combined coat of arms in the middle, my coat of arms here at the top left corner and your coat of arms at the top right corner." Charles said to Diana who is stitching the tapestry.

"That's wonderful darling, how about here at the bottom?" Diana asked noticing the free space below their combined coat of arms.

"We'll update it once we thought of something."

A knock at the door made them stop what they were doing, it was the private secretary of Charles.

"Excuse me your royal highnesses for interupting but the queen requests for prince Charles in Buckingham to have an audience with her."

Charles kissed Diana lightly on her lips, "I will be home soon darling after I am done meeting with my mother. I won't be long, just stay here or in our room and don't move much while I am gone."

"Take care on your way to mama. Kindly send my regards."

"I will." Charles said and left to go to his mother the queen.

Buckingham Palace

"Charles your sister talked to me and she told me something about you." The queen started.

"What did she told you?" Charles wondered what Anne told their mother that prompted her to call him in the palace.

"That you've changed because of Diana."

"What?!" Charles exclaimed frustrated at what he heard. "What exactly did Anne told you?"

"That you don't play polo, ride your horse, hunt, become a vegan and that you sent your beloved dog to a close friend of yours because Diana told you to." The queen said, she wanted to know what's happening to his son and if Diana's changing him, she will interfere.

Charles roughly stood up from his seat and turned away from his mother to calm his breathing before he said something, his angry because Anne thought Diana forced him to change his lifestyle and even told their mother about it.

"Diana's pregnancy is difficult mama, she's sick and emotional most of the time. I don't play polo or ride my horse as often as before because I want to be by her side when I am not busy on my public engagements. I don't hunt and became a vegan because I chose to and I sent Harvey to my friend for the meantime until Diana gives birth to my child because his scent always makes her sick. I changed because I chose to, to support my wife not because she told me to."

A sudden knock called the attention of mother and son.

"Who is it? I am still talking with my son." The queen said.

"I am sorry your majesty it is me." Elizabeth's private secretary said on the other side of the door.

"Do come in I am about to leave." Charles said he didn't want to discuss more about his changes with his mother.

"Actually I am here for you your royal highness."

Charles suddenly felt cold, something urgent must have happened to Diana or the child she's carrying at home for his mother's secretary to interupt a private audience between him and the queen.

"Tell me what is it, did something happen to my wife?"

"An accident happened at your residence your royal highness, the royal physician is already there monitoring the status of her royal highness and the baby she's carrying."

Charles urgently left Buckingham palace and drove fast back to their apartment in Kensington praying to God that his wife and child are safe.

Kensington Palace

Charles hurried to the room he shares with his wife when he reached home. The sight of Diana hooked into an IV fluid and the sound of different machines monitoring her condition and of their baby made him feel weak that he fell down on his knees and cried at the door.

"Your royal highness." The royal physician helped Charles up on his feet.

"What happened, are they alright?" He asked weakly.

"Her royal highness fainted and fell down the stairs. They are both fine and not in danger, the princess just suffered bruises." The royal physician explained.

"It's my fault I left her here alone." Charles said blaming himself for what happened.

"It is an accident your royal highness, it is not anyone's fault. I will just be outside in case you need me, her royal highness will wake up soon I just put her to sleep for her to rest her body."

The royal physician left Charles alone with his wife.

"Darling I am sorry I left you and this happened, I don't know what I will do if I lose you or our child it will kill me." Charles said to Diana while holding her hand.
