December 8, 1988

Charles was playing an intense charity winter polo with his friends. He wondered why Diana and their children were not yet in the field watching him play. Diana told him earlier after they dropped Wills and Harry on their school that they will all watch him play in the afternoon after their class.

Charles was about to score when he saw his youngest brother Edward running to the field waving at him, he was distracted that the ball was stolen from him.

"Edward, what are you doing here? I was about to score!" He yelled, he's angry the ball was stolen and converted into a point by the opposing team.

Edward catched his breath before speaking, "Diana, she's at the hospital...premature labor."

"What?! But she isn't due until february next year." Charles immediately went down from his horse and called for his assistant to take care of his horse and gear and hurried with Edward to drive to the hospital.

His hands were shaking at the steering wheel that Edward asked him to let him drive, Charles was worried for his wife and daughter that he can't control his hands from shaking.

"Don't worry about them Charles, they will be fine." Edward said reassuringly.

Charles took a deep breath to calm himself and placed his hands on his face, "How about Wills and Harry?"

"Fergie picked Wills and Harry from school and stayed with them at your apartment in Kensington after she heard the news of Diana's premature labor."

"So Diana's alone at the hospital?"

"Sarah's there, she rushed at the hospital after Diana's secretary called her. While I immediately went here to get you after I was told of what happened to Diana."

When they reached the hospital media and concerned citizens were already crowded around the hospital. Charles paid them no mind despite the media wanting to interview him about what happened to the princess of Wales. He hurried up to the delivery room where Diana was currently giving birth to their daughter.

Sarah was there just outside the delivery room crying when Charles arrived.

"How are they?" Charles almost choked his words, he's trying to control his tears.

"I don't know, Diana's been there for quite sometime now." Sarah said crying.

Charles slumped at the nearby chair and covered his face with his hands for Sarah not to see him sobbing and prayed silently for his wife and daughter's safety.

"Charles..." It was the queen who called him who just arrived at the hopsital.

"Mama." Charles looked up at his mother accompanied by Edward.

Elizabeth embraced her son, "Diana's strong and your daughter has both of your blood in her, they will both make it out safely."

"I hope so mama, I can't lose them both. I will die from grief of losing my wife and daughter together."

After another hour of waiting the doctor finally came out of the delivery room and called Charles inside.

"How is my wife and daughter?" Charles asked to the doctor.

"They are both fine your royal highness, your daughter's healthy but still weak and will need to stay in the incubator under constant monitoring for a few weeks before she can go home. Her royal highness is currently resting after a difficult birth to your daughter. With what happened and to avoid endangering the life of her royal highness and any child you will have in the future, it will be best if her royal highness will not bear a child in the future anymore." The doctor said that almost broke Charles in half, Diana told him even before they got married that she wanted to have many children with him that they will both raise full of love.

"Can I see them?" Charles asked wanting to see his wife and daughter.

"Of course, your daughter is in the nicu while her royal highness is in her room resting."

Charles was joined by his mother, Edward and Sarah when they visited his daughter in the nicu, he noticed how tiny her daughter was in the incubator and her dark streaks of hair.

"She has your hair, Diana's strong to give birth to a healthy girl even though she's premature." Elizabeth said to his son.

"She is, I will see my wife now. Diana should be awake by now." Charles said and excused himself but before he left Andrew and Anne arrived.

"We heard what happened, how are they?" Anne asked.

"My wife and daughter are fine."

"Thank God, here I brought you and Diana some clothes. I dropped by your apartment to check on Fergie and the kids and your servant was kind enough to prepare yours and Diana's change of clothes." Andrew handed over a duffel bag containing some clothes for both Charles and Diana.

"Thank you, give my thanks to Fergie for looking after Wills and Harry at home."

"The kids are worried about thier mum, for Diana never misses out on picking them from school. You should see them and bring them here once Diana's well enough."

"I will, where is papa?"

"Papa went to Althorp to get Diana's father and mother." Anne answered.

Diana's still sleeping in her bed when Charles entered her room and noticed the different IV lines attached to her arm, pumping her fluids and blood. The doctor also informed him earlier that they need to transfuse blood to her and prevent blood loss while giving birth.

Charles stroked his wife's face and kissed her forehead tenderly, he noticed her face looked pale lacking their usual glow.

Diana stirred from her sleep and blinked a lot of times to adjust her eyes from the light.

"Charles..." Diana called his name weakly.

"Darling I'm here, do you need anything, are you in pain?" Charles asked worriedly.

"No, just tired. How is our daughter is she well?" Diana asked and grabbed her husband's hand.

"Yes, she's so tiny but full of life."

"I was at home when suddenly I felt my water broke and the next thing I know I was already at the delivery room trying to give birth to our daughter. I was afraid of losing her, it just happened so suddenly." Diana looked away from Charles and cried.

Charles gently turned his wife's face towards him, wiped her tears and leaned his forehead over hers. "Don't think about it anymore, both of you are alright and that's what matters."

"But the doctor said I cannot have a child anymore, it will be dangerous for me and the child. I am a failure as a mother, I can't carry anymore of your children Charles."

Charles embraced his wife tightly against his chest and cried with her, "I cannot say how grateful I am for you carrying and giving birth to our three children. I love you Diana and I will not take the risk of losing you or any child of ours, it will be the death of me."

The following day Buckingham Palace announced the safe delivery of Charles and Diana's premature baby girl they named Catherine Victoria Diana Elizabeth. When Cathy was strong enough to live outside the incubator Charles and Diana showed her to everyone outside the hospital who together with them prayed for her good health.
