"Wanting his attention, my ass," I grumble to myself as I stalk through the training grounds.Still pissed over Edward's words I made sure I steered clear from that kid. I didn't know what to think, how can he say such a thing? Doesn't he realize the amount of hatred I have towards Levi?
Was that too hard to grasp?I kick a small pebble with my eyes trained on the ground. I haven't spoken to Nifa or Hanji ever since we arrived and I wish to keep it that way. All I want is for some peace and quiet.
A bit of time to myself and away from everyone. I was tired of interacting and I was tired of this facade I had to play whenever I'm around Levi.
"Damn, Commander and his stupid order."
"Who's stupid again, Lieutenant?"
I freeze on the spot with chills running down my spine. I knew that stern voice and I knew the feeling of that calculative stare. God damn it, I think dreadfully.
I look up and see Erwin standing before me wearing his usual Scout uniform and his blond hair neatly combed. There was no amusement in his eyes which could only mean he heard what I said. Sweat runs down my temples and I straighten my shoulders.
I get into a formal stance as I try to mask my fear."I apologize for the comment, sir!" I say with a stiff tone. "That was out of place for someone like me."
We lock eyes, each second becomes brutal than the last. He inspects me for a long moment, his eyes narrowing and his lips turning into a deeper frown.
Suspension, was all I could think of. He wouldn't let something like this go so easily. I braced myself for the punishment until I hear a huff of a chuckle.
I blink to see Erwin smiling, amused at my quick apology. His hard stare disappears coating his blue eyes with softness.
"At ease, Emma," he smiles. "You're not in trouble."
I release a breath I hadn't realized I kept in. I was grateful to his overly kindness towards me.
"Thank you, sir."
"Erwin," he corrects. "If it's just us then there should be no formality to be used." He gestures a hand toward me. "Let's take a walk."
Obliged by his offer I quickly scurry after him. Despite the no formality rule I still felt awkward by his suggestion. I knew well enough Hanji, Levi, and the others called him by his first name in private but, I wasn't used to it. The walk was silent and I didn't mind. It was sort of peaceful, relaxing even.
"Why are we taking a walk?" I ask after a while. I glance at him to see his focus solely on what's in front of him.
"Just for the fun of it," he answers. "I don't think we had a decent conversation after the mission."
"Well, what do you want to talk about?" I inquired with a thoughtful frown. I hear Erwin making a humming sound as he thinks it over. I couldn't help but smirk in amusement. He glance down at me and matches my smirk.
"What's so funny?" He questions.
"Nothing," I answer truthfully. "You're just thinking too hard. You can ask how my day was or something," I suggest openly.
"I rather not. I've got a feeling you're in a foul mood."
"How'd you figure?" Erwin gestures his head to a young Cadet leaning against the wall of the building while mingling with a couple of girls.
"I couldn't help but hear the conversation you had with Edward during the trip."
My cheeks suddenly flush while my eyes widen in horror. My feet stop in its tracks and I shake my head furiously. If Erwin had heard everything then that means. . .
