Living Dead

Chapter 3

 I chuckled drinking from my coffee as I lean against the countertop.

"Lily!" I quickly act as I see Sam quickly reach for his gun. I know he would shoot first, ask questions late. "It's alright they're with me." I press a hand on Sam's arm to prevent him from raising his gun.

"Are you sure Ava?"

"Yes, Lily, now put the gun down your scaring them." The girls sigh in relief as she puts it down and Sam immediately drags Olivia behind him.

"I'm sorry Ava, it's just I woke up without Athena by my side and then I heard random noise downstairs I taught they had taken her." She quickly tucks away the gun and grabs the cup of coffee I offer her. I softly chuckle.

"You know how excited she gets for my birthday; she was trying to surprise me for when I got home. She's upstairs in my bedroom asleep. If you want to go check on her real quick and come back downstairs? I think it would be best to inform you as well." The rest grab their own cup of coffee, slowly relaxing now that Lily has put away her gun.

"Of course, Ava, I will be right back." She leaves her coffee on the counter and makes her way upstairs. I nod my head for the others to follow as I lead them to the living room. I take the love seat and they all take the long couch.

"Ava, what is going?" Olivia is the first to speak after we take a seat.

"What do you want to know?"

"Well first off, can you explain why you had a gun?" Steph's eyes widen as I take it out of my jeans and place it on the table.

"That one?" she nods "well I own it, why else would I have? Please ask more important and relevant questions." I lean back, crossing my legs and placing my arms on the armrest.

"oh, cut the crap! You know what she meant!" Olivia snaps at me. I roll my eyes and lean forward placing my elbows on my knees.

"I have a gun, so what? Its part of past that all you don't have to know about. Or why don't you try to ask Sam since you had him do a background check on me?" I raise an eyebrow as Olivia begins to deny it and Sam just continues to analyze me. "You don't have to deny it. I knew as soon as Sam typed my name into the search box. If you had asked me beforehand, I would have just told you it was a waste of time." Olivia deflates as she realizes I'm not buying any of her bullshit. She stays quiet not even apologizing for it.

"So, what happened?" Lily broke the stare off me and Sam were having as she sits down in one the lone chairs. I quickly jump into telling everybody what I had seen at the club. I would shoot a glare at Steph every time she was about to interrupt me.

"That cant be possible. You didn't even stay, so how would you know what you had seen was for sure?" Steph is the first to ask me questions after 5 minutes of them processing what I had said.

"I am sure of what I had seen. I wasn't going to stand there and wait for that club to have gotten worst. It would have made getting out of the club much harder." Lean back on chair drinking my coffee. "I have people who depend on me and I'm not going to let them down just because I wasn't precautious enough."

"What do you think it was? Because I think I know what you are thinking and that is impossible. That's simply science fiction." Olivia gets up and begins to pace behind the couch. "I need to head home to my family, I can't stay here." I quickly jump up grabbing her arm.

"Look we can't do anything right now. It would be best to wait till the morning and see if the news or radio have any updates. We can head to your home tomorrow morning."

"No, I have to leave now." I throw a look at Sam, urging him to get up and talk some sense into her. He nods and pulls her off to the sides to talk privately.

"Who's Athena?" Steph ask as Sam and Olivia walk out. I stare at questionably, wondering where she got that name. She points at Lily, "She mentioned that name earlier." I nod my head as I pick up the tablet, checking on the cameras. "Well?" Steph asks again impatiently.

Before I could answer I hear a scream coming from upstairs.
