I quietly and quickly walk up the daunting stairway, the wood creaking underneath my boots. I open the worn down door and step into the room to meet my boss. "Y/n, welcome. I have a task for you unlike any others." He said. I stand up tall, the only light in the room coming from the old window at the back of the room. "Yes sir?" I ask. "You'll have to kill the prince." He said. "What?! Sir, you know that is basically impossible?" I exclaim. "In most cases, yes. But recently its become apparent that he is needed to marry a woman to be king. Now, with that thought in mind, please take the file with all the information in it." He said pointing to the file cabinet. I quickly grab the dark green file. "You are free to go, y/n." He said. "Thank you sir."

I quickly exit the building. Meetings like that always had to be in an abandoned building and always had to be short. No one is too know of my job, as it could end with me up in the castle prison. I quickly stuff the file into my bag, running through the crowd, dodging screaming ladies and working men. The streets were lined with stores, bakeries, dress stores, herbalists. The path way was cobblestone and every once and a while you would see a tall black lamp-post. I rush into my mums bakery, as I slam the door shut, the bell made a loud ringing sound. "Someone's excited to be home." She said with a smile. I give a small smile, sitting down so I could catch my breath. My skirt a deep purple and dirty at the bottom from the mud I trampled in. I wore brown boots and I had a darker brown corset around my waist. I had a bag attached to my belt and a white top. My mums store always smelt of freshly baked bread, it was a beige room, but it always had a calming atmosphere. I would sometimes be forced to help out in the store, I remember that was before I got the... job. I looked over at my mum flattening out the bread, humming a tune to herself. I wish there was a better way to get money...

I get up and go upstairs to my room. It was never really decorated, I never cared enough to do that. It had a simple bed in the corner with a vanity. There was a drawer that held all my clothes, and a desk for me to do my work. I had a window that overlooked a big lake. We lived right on the edge of town, so it was all forest. When I had enough money one day, I was going to get me and my mum out of here. We wanted to explore the whole world. I leaned onto my windowsill,  I sigh looking out, longing to leave. I put my bag on my vanity, taking the file out and sitting down at my desk. 'A letter will be sent to every lady in town, they will be invited to a ball where the prince is to look for a bride. Your goal is to go to that ball, have one dance with the prince and then kill him all before 12. This is very important, as you are the only one who can do it.'

I look at the file in awe. "You've got to be kidding me..." I whisper to myself. I hear a knock on my bedroom door and my mums muffled speaking. I quickly put the file back in the bag, rushing to the door for her. "Oh y/n, you'll never believe it! We've been invited to the ball!" She exclaimed. "Oh... really?" I say. My mum hugged me "Maybe he'll fall in love with me and then we can get enough money!" She said. "I think that's highly unlikely." I say with a giggle, hugging her back. "Well, I assume you won't be going? Since I don't believe you're into the whole dressing up and dancing thing." She said with a small smile. I wanted so badly to not go, but I knew that the pay on this would be great. "I... I umm. I want to go." I say quietly. "What?" My mum said in shock. "You never do stuff like this, is everything ok?" My mum said worried, putting her hand on my forehead to check my temperature. "Uh, yeah I'm fine but I just, uh want to get away from work for a bit." I say with a small smile.

"Oh I would be delighted to dress you up like a little princess!" She said holding my hands. I laugh a bit. "Imagine you, in a massive dress walking down the isle with white flowers!" My mum exclaimed. "Don't push it." I said. She giggled, leaving one of the envelopes in my room. "It's tomorrow night, ok? Get ready we'll go dress shopping soon!" She said, giving me a little wink. I smile, watching her leave my room. As soon as the door closed my face dropped. This would be a hard task. But it's one dance, how hard could that even be?
