We made it home without crashing, thank God. After hopping off our bikes and pushing them into the garage we unhooked the cases, heading up to our rooms. Our mom wasn't home yet, and we silently blessed our luck. Changing into our all-black work-out clothes, we ran down the stairs to our workout building. Yes, it is a building, and actually it is almost as big as our house. When we were born and claimed by the Lion Spirits, the council had it built for us to train in. It had a very high ceiling, and the sticking out from the walls were poles and boards, meant to test our agility, strength, and reflexes. I skipped over to the control board, changing the setting from medium to hard. I plugged in my iPod and set it to my work-out playlist.
Kari raised her eyebrow at me,*blowing off some steam?*, she questioned me. I nodded, and then braced myself as the floor rose, lifting us to the top starting boards. It's a good thing my wings were wrapped, or they would catch the wind as I flipped from each handhold. The floor stopped, and we took off, jumping for the top poles. Kari's disappeared just as she touched it, and she fell a bit transporting herself to a different pole. In the meantime, I had swung ahead by four poles, flipping to each one. A new pole appeared, and I had to pull in my legs to avoid it, causing me to tumble down onto a board. I rolled and righted myself, dropping to a lower board as I used it like a diving board to boost me up. A board shot out, and I reached for it, but it disappeared again as soon as I touched it. I cursed under my breath as I caught a different pole before I fell farther, Kari echoing my mutters above me. We continued with them for another hour, and dropped to the floor, physically tired.
But then Ace and Gabriel waltzed in, carrying their swords and our practice fans. We groaned as we rolled ourselves into a sitting position, begging them with our eyes to let us off for once. They grinned and shook their heads, and we stood on our wobbly legs. We snatched our fans, flipping them open and settling into our stances in the middle of the building. We started our forms slowly, then picked up our pace, and we had almost finished when we heard metal singing through the air. We immediately dropped and rolled away, raising our fans in a defensive stance. Gabriel tried to rush me, and I saw Ace go for Kari, but I jumped on the flat of his sword as he lunged, shoving it at me like he was trying to gut me. His eyes darkened as I stood on the blade, and I jumped off as he lifted it quickly. Flipping over his head, I landed on his back, snapping my right fan shut while calling out its spikes. They shot out of the spokes, and I pressed then to Gabriel's throat. He winced as I 'killed' him, then tapped my arm to let me know I had won. I slid off his back, putting the blades back. He laughed as I brushed myself off, and I held my head high with a smirk on my lips, taunting him for losing so quickly.
All four of us headed back to our house when Ace had finished losing to Kari, laughing and telling jokes. We had left the weapons in the Vault, a high-grade safe under the workout building. We passed our pool on the way inside, and the boys being boys pushed us in. We came up spluttering, then grabbed their ankles and dragged them in as well. We played in the water until we realized the sun had gone down, and we rushed to get out as the temperature dropped. We grabbed towels from the porch, which we always left outside in case we went for an 'unexpected' swim. I pushed open the glass door, and all of us fell in a heap as we all smelled a delicious scent wafting in from the kitchen. We ran in, Gabriel in the lead, and tried to steal enchiladas from the dish before our mom realized we were there.
"I don't think so, kiddos. Go take showers, then you can come eat,' our mom yelled from the pantry. We grumbled as we trudged out of the kitchen, thankful that none of us wore shoes to practice anymore.
"DIBS!" Ace yelled as he shot up the stairs, and we raced to reach the bathroom first, barely reaching it as he slammed the door and locked it. We all moaned, knowing Ace took forever in the shower. I got a bright idea and took off to our mom's room, Gabriel and Kari trying to race me as well, but I had a head start, and managed to lock the door before they made it as well. They groaned, and stalked off to wait for their turns in the hallway.
"Stop slamming doors!' Mom yelled, and we all laughed, showering as fast as we could.
