My eyes narrowed as I grabbed tighter onto the safety bar, this did not look good. I felt fear creep up in me as we came close to the ice. The conductor noticed it to and yelled out.
"Simmity Christmas, the ice has frozen over the tracks." I shook my head in disbelief as the train finally hit the ice, and didn't break through?
The train started sliding across the tracks at a stupid amount of speed, it was threatening to tip over any moment but I prayed that it didn't, surprising. Oh why did I have to take over now.
The train started to skid, completely flipping around and sending me almost flying off the train with the momentum. A yell left everyone's lips as we held on for dear life. I squatted down as my heart pumped in my ears, the sound of metal on ice freezing me still.
"What is happening! How is this even possible!!"
"No clue, just hold on Fury!"
"Doing my best!"
The locomotive was still running quickly, meaning they haven't made any attempt to slow down. Why? I had no idea but the locomotive was barreling through the ice toward no destination. My eyes looked around and saw there there was nothing around for what looked like miles. We were on open water, and I had no idea how thick this ice was.
Wait, what's that!
Iceberg ahead!
The trains front left slammed into an iceberg about half the size of the locomotive. I grit my teeth as I was immediately tugged down and felt my body pulling off the side of the train.
The little girls screams sounded in my ears and my eyes darted to her. The conductor, who was falling toward her, grabbed the back of her dress and was holding her by one hand. She was dangling off the side of the train and the conductor was close to falling off as well. My eyes widened and I leaned forward, reaching with my arm to wrap around the conductors waist while my other hand held the safety bar. I yelled as I could feel my fingers slipping off the cold frozen surface.
My fingers slipped all at once and I felt my boots slip from the floor. I was going to fall off with the conductor and the girl, no doubt getting crushed by the train. I grit my teeth and closed my eyes, expecting it to all end.
It didn't.
A hand grabbed the back of my coat and held me from falling. There was a lot of strength there, and logic told me that the boy would not have that kind of strength. I reached out and grabbed the safety bar again and spun my head around to see who had saved me.
The hobos face graced me with a smile as he brought his other hand up to shush me. I gritted my teeth and stared confused.
Finally the train started to slow down and and the back end of the train kept the momentum and kept going forward. I tore my eyes away from the hobo toward the conductor who turned toward me, "Young man, good thinking on your part!"
I glanced back toward the hobo, seeing that he was now gone. I gave a quick glance to the boy who gave me a wide eyed expression. He'd seen him to.
The train slowed from a fast skid to a crawling halt quickly. I steadied myself on the guard rail as the train wobbled in the air, sitting for a moment before coming down on hard on the ice. I thought it would break through but I guess not.
As we completely stopped all movement the conductor stood up tall and adjusted his cap. "Well, that's more like it."
I snorted as I stood up on wobbly legs, my heart rate having not calmed down yet. "Can something not go wrong, for 5 minutes." I said with a small smirk, though I entirely meant what I said.
