When you first generate your world on minecraft the first thing you should do is not explore and play until it gets night time but you should go look for some wood. It does not matter what type of wood it is as long as its wood. There are many types of different types of woods there's oak wood(which is usually found in forest biomes), there's birch wood(which is also usually found in forest biomes), there's spruce wood(which is found in snowy/winter biomes), and there's jungle wood( which is found in jungle biomes of course!). Once you have found your wood break it and make yourself a crafting box. when you have crafted your crafting box this is where the crafting begins.
The first thing you should craft is a wooden pic-axe. your wooden pic-axe will be crafted out of wooden planks and sticks. When you have your pic-axe dig under ground and mine some stone which will break into cobble stone. When you have collected your stone make sure it is enough to make a whole set of stone tools(exept a hoe which i will be talking about later). So you should craft a stone axe, pic-axe, shovel, and a sword. The stone axe will help you cut down tree's faster for wood, the stone pic-axe will help you mine some cobble stone quicker(and other minerals you find), the stone shovel will help you shovel up dirt, sand, and gravel, and the sword will help you fight off mobs that try to kill you and other things you just fill like killing like animals.
Next thing you should do is hurry up and try to find a sheep so that you can kill it and get it's wool that it drops because you will need it to make a bed. The things that you will need to make a bed is wooden planks and wool becasue once night time hits you won't last a second. You can sleep anywhere as long as it's not near mobs. When you go to sleep and it hits day time again this is when you can start building your house. You can build your house out of anything you want all i recomend you to do is HAVE FUN A ND BE CREATIVE!
