Three Fifth-Graders and a Haunted Well

Chapter 3

Anne and Fianna were also in the field. They were all surprised to see each other.

They all quickly explained their strange experiences to each other.

They were still talking when a girl who looked just about their age appeared.

"Hello.",she said sweetly. The three friends were startled by her appearance,because she had a pretty face,but it was totally expressionless. Anne reached out to shake the girl's outstretched hand,but quickly pulled away because it was as cold as ice.

"Do you want to play hide and seek?",the girl asked in her melodious voice.

Although the three friends thought that it wasn't exactly the right time to play,it would be rude to say no.

"I want to seek!",said the girl.

"Okay,you can seek.",said Amelia.

"What's your name,by the way?",Fianna asked.

"My name? Um...Um...Um,my name is...Susie...Uh,Susie Andrews. Yeah,um-Susie Andrews."

"Why don't you remember your name?",Anne asked suspiciously.

"Um,I have a problem...I forget stuff easily...even my name. And see,now I forgot to ask your name!",Susie said nervously.

"I'm Amelia,and these are my friends: Anne and Fianna."

"Alright.",the girl said. "I'm counting now,go hide." And with that Susie started to count.

The girls spotted a big log on the grass not too far away. They all ran to it and hid inside it as it was hollow.

Suddenly the holes in the log closed and they heard Susie's voice.

"Ha,ha,ha.",she laughed,not a nice friendly laugh but an evil laugh. "You fell for my trap."

The three girls could barely recognize her voice as it was completely different.

Suddenly,three holes appeared in the bottom of the log. All the girls fell in the holes and started screaming. They were frightened to death.

When they landed,they thought they were deadx

They soon realized that they had fallen in something soft.

"FLESH!",Anne screamed.

They hurriedly got up,bein very careful and trying not to get too much blood on themselves.

They looked up to see how deep this strange place was. "Wow! I can barely see any light from above!",said Amelia.

"You're saying 'wow'?! How are we going to get home?",said Fianna ad Anne rolled her eyes.

"Are you blind?!",Anne exclaimed. "There's a ladder we can climb up."

Amelia sighed with relief. "Thank God there is a ladder.",she said.

But when they tried to climb the ladder,they couldn't. Every time they tried,a kind of an invisible hand pushed them back and they fell off,

"OH NO! WE'RE TRAPPED!",screamed Fianna.

"Shut up!",said Anne (who was equally scared,but was too high strung to admit it).

"There must be a way out.",said Amelia logically."So let's find it."

"Find what?",said Fianna. "A way out,of course.",Amelia replied.

"What about a way out?",Fianna asked.

"Let's find it,idiot!",Amelia said frustratedly.

"Find what?",said Fianna stupidly.

"Idiot who? What?",Anne put in.

"Guys,we're stuck in a...in a...what is this place anyway?",Amelia said,looking around.

"I have no idea.",said Anne.

"Looks like a well.",said Fianna.
