She ran upstairs to see the men running all around the deck, some climbing up ropes that led to the sails and they were trying to roll them up as fast as they could. One man, she couldn't see, but she could hear him at the top shouting something about monsters.

What the hell is happening?

She started to look for the captain when something hit the ship with such a force, it knocked her flat to the ground. She crept along the deck, looking for something to hold on to when she accidentally grabbed someone's leg. Looking up, she saw it was Patch she was touching and she instantly let him go.

"Sorry! It was an accident!" she pleaded but still shrieked when the mammoth sized man bent over and picked her up like a rag doll by her arms.

He set her on her feet, this time there was no malice, no snickering or glaring from him.

"Go back to your cabin. It's not safe here." This time he spoke to her with civility and concern in his tone.

It puzzled Amara and for the first time she questioned Patch's level of compassion.

"But what's happening? What was that?" she looked around, searching for Kirk but staying close to Patch in case she fell again.

"Sea monsters. They're common in these waters, but they're a bitch to kill."

Sea monsters?

What the fu- her thoughts cut off when another hit made contact with the side of the ship.

Amara was afraid they were going to sink to the bottom of the ocean. She didn't even want to imagine what these sea monsters looked like up close and personal. Patch held on to her arm firmly, preventing her from falling again. She looked to the helm and saw a figure steering the wheel in the opposite direction drastically. That has to be him. She tried to get out of Patch's grasp, but he held her firmly.

"Red- I mean Patch- Sorry. Please, let me go see my father!" she was yelling just to be heard over the commotion.

"No, he's concentrating. Don't distract him. Just go back to your room and stay there until this is over. I'll send him to you when this thing is done." Amara didn't want to know what that entailed.

He finally let her go and she tried in vain to make it back to the stairs, stumbling and falling several times.

Eventually she gave up walking and fell to her knees and crawled over to the side of the deck and pulled herself up. She wanted to see this monster that was causing such havoc in the middle of the night.

She didn't realized she was leaning over too far, straining her eyes just to see in the black waters, when another unseen attack bumped the ship and she went flying over board.

The first thing Amara felt was the sting of the ice-cold waters hitting her, shocking her skin. She fell in too deep and the waves were keeping her from breaking the surface again, her eyes stinging from the icy unforgiving waves, the waters were so dark it didn't make a difference when she closed her lids or tried to keep them open in the coldness of the salty water.

Kicking with all her might, she tried to reach the surface, but something grabbed hold of her leg, snaking upwards and making her skin crawl. Real fear set in. Whatever it was, whatever sea monster this thing is, its tentacle-like appendage wrapped around her whole leg, not just part of it, but up her thigh and around her hip. She panicked and let out what little breath she had left, her lungs felt like they were on fire.

It started pulling her down, the water whooshing past her, deeper into the dark abyss and try as she might, no matter how hard she tried kicking or clawing at its slimy slippery skin, it wouldn't let her go.
