After having dropped Anna to work, Harry realized he was in such a good mood that he felt like celebrating the news of the new baby with everyone. He started making phone calls to their friends a family hoping to have them over but he knew he wasn’t going to cook dinner for all of them, so he just offered good pizza and beer and everyone jumped at the chance.
Anna’s parents had gone for a long weekend to Brighton so they were out of town. They would find out about the news when they got back. His sister however wasn’t busy so she said she was going to bring her husband and her girls over for dinner. The lads had all agreed to come over some time around seven with the wives and children.
He got the house ready and went out for a quick trip to the supermarket to get snacks and drinks for everyone and all he needed to do now was order a bunch of pizzas when everyone started arriving and that was it.
He picked up his daughters from pre-school and played with them for a while in the backyard
“Oli come on…You too Soph I want to ask you something”
“What daddy?” Asked Oli walking over to him and sitting on the floor next to him while Sophie brought the beach ball from the end of the yard
“Girls… How would you like for mommy to have a baby? You know…a little sister or a little brother” He said, looking at their reactions with expectation
“But I don’t want another sister…I have Sophie already” Said Olivia
“Daddy where’s the baby?” Asked Sophie
“But Oli, don’t you think it would be cool to have another sister? Or how about a brother? You can look after her or him the way you look after Sophie” He said trying to make the news sound cheerful to her seeing as her expression didn’t look so
“Daddy where’s the baby?” Asked Sophie again
“Right now, it’s inside mommy’s tummy” He said knowing he was about to embark in an endless question spree “The baby needs to stay there for a long time”
“How long?” Asked Sophie
“About 8 more months” Answered Harry
“Can we play with the baby now?” Asked Sophie
“No sweetie… You can only play with the baby when he or she is born” Explained Harry
“Daddy I don’t want another baby sleeping in my room… What if the baby wants my toys? Asked Olivia on the verge of tears
“Oh sweetie… Come here” He said bringing Olivia in for a hug
“The baby will not take away your toys…And I’m sure you’ll love the baby as much as you love Sophie” He said rubbing her back in an effort to comfort her “Look at Sophie…She’s excited about the baby, right Soph?”
“Yeah…Because we can play with the baby too” She said nodding excitedly
Olivia seemed reluctant to the idea but she wasn’t on the verge of tears any more
“And you can help me and mommy choose the name for the baby when we find out if it will be a boy or a girl” Suggested Harry “So tonight, before you go to bed, you’ll tell mommy that you’re happy about the baby, ok?”
“Ok” Nodded Sophie
“What are you going to tell mommy tonight?” Asked Harry looking at Olivia
