Never so helpless, so weak, so vulnerable,
So stereotypically feminine.
He shielded me from the leers of everyone else, fighting between two ultimatums in his head.
Me.
Them.
“Wasn’t that the question all along?” I whispered to him. His body stiffened and I laughed. He was still indecisive. He knew why. I knew why. I knew that I’d lost my battle.
“It’s okay. I’ll be fine. Wherever I’m going after this, I’ll be fine.”
Tears fell into my palm. I didn’t know whose they were, but all I could think about was the end.
Pulling the hidden syringe from the pocket in my sleeve, I handed it to him.
"Do it."
He did.
My heart faltered.
Death.
Freedom.
