*SOMEWHERE IN MAY 2019*
It was around this time where it all began. I knew you, but you didn't know me. We were in the same section, but on opposites of the room during every practice.
We exchanged few words between May and July.
Mid-July. Mini camp. A shorter band camp, but the same idea. In the middle of each practice we would have an hour lunch, and you knew Abbi, I knew abbi, so we would always sit together and eat lunch. We always laughed and told jokes during this time, but we still hardly knew each other. We got to know each other, but we didn't do much talking outside of group conversations.
In September 2019, our marching band competitions began and this is the real beginning. I sat with abbi on the bus rides to competitions, and you sat with your friend across from us. Every competition we became better friends, created inside jokes, and shared many laughs.
After late night competitions, we would have hour long bus rides between 10 pm and 3 am. Everyone would be asleep on the bus and we would be awake because we couldn't sleep, talking about the day. We never talked about things too serious, but we probably wouldn't share some of the things we said to others.
You often jokingly made fun of me in front of our other friends, but I also did it to you and that was kind of our thing. I sometimes wonder if I did that out of fear, because maybe the words actually hurt me inside. It was never anything bad, but I'll always wonder.
At Nationals all of our friends in our grade sat together in the stadium for the awards. We sat with Abbi and 2 of our other friends on the other side of the stadium. I always wondered why you sat with us when you could've sat with all of your other friends.
After Nationals we didn't talk much because there was a 2-3 week break until we started our Indoor Percussion season for band. When we began indoor our relationship took it up a notch. At this point it was around December 20th.
In indoor, our instruments were directly next to each other and we were always right next to each other at practice. When we weren't playing we were constantly talking to each other. Wether it was having a little "spill the tea" session or a juicy drama story, we were always talking. Always.
We still had our inside jokes, but this time we had our own. We both hated Jacob, another kid near us at band. He was constantly doing stupid stuff but we teamed up on him. He knew we hated him, but he still always found a way to piss us off.
We would spend a lot of time talking about Jacob and everything that was bad about him. It was one of our things we had in common. It was an easy talking point for us. One thing about practice was we had to be attentive and engaged, we were, but in between playing music, that was our time. You chose to sit with me during lunch and dinner when we had long practices. We would always be laughing our heads off and telling the funniest stories. We never had a care in the world when we were talking. Of course when we had lunch and dinner our friends were with us too, but it was the fact that we were there together that mattered. We would run down the hallways throwing frisbees, we would prank other kids, or we were talking and laughing. At this point we were friends.
When we had competitions, we had to do our creepy makeup for the show and it was one of my favorite parts. I remember helping you put your stupid orange foundation on because you couldn't blend it at all.
You loved the show. I loved the show so much too. It was so easy to tell how passionate we were about the indoor show. We loved performing and making the scary faces we had to do during the performance. We absolutely loved the time we had in indoor. The many adventures, the inside jokes and constant laughing, the crazy things we did when we had competitions out of the state. We were a month into the season and we were living our lives, and having so much fun competing. We still had 2 months of competitions left, and so much ahead of us.
But we took advantage of the time we had together. It was at that moment when the world stopped spinning. This is where everything starts deteriorating until we had nothing.
