She immediately froze, every inch of her longing to turn to that voice and see Lindsey's gorgeous face. Yet Stevie stopped when she realized the last thing she wanted him to see was her tear-stricken face. Praying he hadn't heard her breath hitch, (or he may have, considering a soft chuckle she'd heard moments ago) she relaxed herself and continued to sit on the floor, her black clothes flowing around her and overlapping with a cascade of blonde waves. What a site to see she mused.
"I didn't hear you come in."
"The door was unlocked, I was hoping to break the ice?"
Stevie smiled gently, her skin stretching amongst the drying tears and makeup. "That's okay then, I guess," she replied "although I was writing."
"About me?"
Always.
"Not in particular.."
She felt a kind of silence again, and now that someone was in the room with her, especially him, it was too painful to handle. Maybe he left? No. They'd just started talking, haven't they? Although, that's all they really managed to speak to one another nowadays anyway. But Stevie clung to a small hope that he may be there just for the soul purpose to be near her, and that comforted her fragile state. But she was torn between turning around and facing his reaction to her appearance, or facing an interrogation because she simply wouldn't turn around.
"I think, when normal people have conversations, they face each other." Shit.
"Are we really normal people, Linds?" She attempted to laugh, and maybe make the situation less tense, but her voice came out shaky and uncertain. Don't break down.
A few moments passed, and Stevie was almost relieved that he hadn't noticed, until a pair of large recognizable hands grasped her shoulders lightly and she realized he was kneeling behind her, the room still a distant glow of the candle's reflection. He always knew.
She felt his breath just beneath her earlobe, “Are you going to answer my question?” he whispered, and hearing him so close made her lean back in response. Lindsey provided an immense comfort and strength to her that she still couldn’t describe after all these years. He brought his hands further down, continuing to caress her shoulders and down the rest of her arms, exploring the heavy fabric. Always a tease too
She couldn’t believe this. For the past five years he could barely speak to her, let alone be in the same room with her, and now he was all over her. Right at her fingertips. Lindsey’s hands continued searching her body, falling from her arms to her waste and squeezing lightly. “Because if you don’t,” her breathing quickening slightly as his hands began to go further, towards her thighs. “It’ll be difficult to concentrate on doing this..”
Stevie decided it was now or never, and gently shifted her weight around to face him.
“Stephanie..”
His face was still as beautiful as when she had first met him as a teenager. Deep blue eyes seemed to bring back memories and melt away aging all at the same time. It was a kind of magic she appreciated greatly, and as she caressed his graying curls softly she hoped he only saw her the same way. Lindsey’s gentle expression faded into a concerned frown as he brought both hands to her face and searched her eyes, his fingers grazing the tear stains. Seeing his notable change in expression, she rolled her eyes and brought her hands up to wipe underneath for any remaining eyeliner, feeling embarrassed and insecure. “People cry Linds and it’s not the end of the world. You should know that by now, especially with me.”
“Come here, you’re beautiful you know,” she sat back into his lap and he cradled her in his arms, her head on his chest. After a moment, he continued “was it something I did, Steph?”
“No, I’m just a mess.” She sighed. The pain hit her like a knife. How could he think that? He’d done nothing wrong here and in all honesty she was being completely overemotional over the fact that she couldn’t bring herself to write. That and the underlying fact that she couldn’t have him all to herself. But that was never his fault, she had always pushed him away. But Stevie shook her head, she wasn’t going to let that happen this time. Not tonight
She brought her lips to his urgently, craving a security she knew she could only be offered for a limited amount of time. His body stilled beneath her, but Lindsey returned the kiss just as fiercely. “I’m so sorry,” she explained, muffled through frequent kisses traveling from his jawline towards his neck. “I never meant to let you go, I was always just so scared Linds, baby..I needed..”
“Shhh..I know, angel…I know..” He set her down onto the floor beneath them and brought both hands on either side of her, towering over her and bringing his gaze lower, eyes growing darker with every inch. “you have me…you’ve always…had me..”
It was eternal bliss and ecstasy all at the same time, yet just as her head became foggier and his soft kisses became lower, there came a knock at the door, and a voice all too familiar. She’d completely forgot about him.
Not now!!!
“Stevie, baby can we talk? I know you’re still awake and I want you at least twice tonight before I have to leave for my flight in five hours.”
A pair of blue eyes searched hers questionably as the lock began to turn.
I hope this is okay! I really enjoy people reading the things I create. I hope this was as good as my last chapter, sometimes I get lost in my writing and I don’t know if it actually makes sense/suffices :’) I appreciate your feedback guys! Thank you!
