"thank you guys for arriving on short notice, jasper has experience with the newborns, he will teach us how to defeat them." carlisle nodded to him and he stepped forward.

jasped began, " i'll need edward to translate for us obviously." as the pack were in their wolf form, he couldn't communicate with them ad he normally would.

"the younger wolves want to know how the newborns differ from us." edward said looking back at jasper.

"you guys don't know, seriously?"  y/n could hear the thoughts of the wolves and she smiled lightly at their bickering, it reminded her of her own sisters.

"they're a great deal stronger than us because their own human blood lingers in their tissues. our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life. take y/n for example, she could beat any of you guys within seconds." carlisle answered before stepping back, deciding to let jasper lead from now on.

"a newborn army doesn't need thousands like a human army. but no human army can stand against them. now the two most important things to remember are;" he looked at carlisle and edward who began to fight,  "first never let them get their arms around you, they'll crush you instantly. the second, never go for the obvious kill, they'll be expecting that and you will lose."

edward was slightly stronger than carlisle so within seconds carlisle was on the floor so cockily, the chicago born vampire turn and winked at his wife who jokingly rolled her eyes.

jasper shook his head, "one more thing," he said with an eyebrow raised, "never turn your back on your enemy."

as he spoke carlisle got up and throw edward to the ground.

the cullens and the pack spent all day practising their skills and by the end of the night the pack went home to rest. leah had stayed behind in her human form to talk to y/n.

"so, you and jasper?" she asked as they sat on the balcony in y/n's room.

"what about us?" y/n replied, acting as if she had no idea what the short haired girl was talking about.

"come on, i'm not stupid, i know you like him." leah lightly pushed her shoulder, "have you guys kissed yet?"

again, if y/n could blush she would've, "oh my gosh leah!" she exclaimed and laughed, "you need to stop." she smiled and shook her head.

"he won't hear, he's hunting!" leah whined

"if anything happens between us i'll let you be the first one to know." y/n gently shoved the shapeshifter.

"leah, we're leaving," jacob called from below them and she rolled her eyes, "i'll see you tomorrow y/n, don't do anything naughty!" she jumped off the balcony and got in jacob's truck before y/n could do or say anything.

"i hate you!" y/n called out jokingly and waved goodbye.

when y/n stepped back into her room, she was greeted by edward, rosalie and alice, "you've got the fighting down, but we think you'll be even powerful if you use your power to help us all." rosalie smiled at her, "we should probably get started tonight, the weather is started to get colder."

edward spoke, "i've noticed your power comes and goes, almost involuntarily." he stood in front of y/n, the whole coven sat and watched.

"you need to visualise it. try to read emmett's mind." edward spoke.

"think of it. see how it moves, what color it is. now picture it expanding. will it to go beyond you." bella spoke this time, sharing a smile with edward. y/n nodded and squeezed her eyes shut, trying her hardest to read emmett's mind.

after a few seconds of her eyes closed and wishing she gave him, "i can't! it's too hard, it's too hard i'm sorry." she stepped back in an attempt to back away.

for a second everyone's voices became muffled, y/n looked around and tried to calm herself down. she closed her eyes and imagined again. she clenched her fists and thought of jasper and almost immediately she heard emmett's voice.

"holy crap i hope she's okay. i wonder where jasper is, it's almost hibernation season i n-"

y/n stumbled and her eyes opened wide, the red in her was fading slowly, "i heard it. he spoke about bear season or something." she smiled happily, glad she was finally making progress.

"i don't think we should stress her, let her-" edythe began,

"no! no. it's okay i got this." this time she tried to shield everyone from edward and his mind reading. she imagined a cloud of yellow smoke engulfing them and covering them all. and it worked.

after a few jumps of celebration y/n stepped back, "okay, now we can rest."

even though she was happy she was able to start using her power in ways that she had no idea she could, y/n wished for one thing.

for jasper to be here and celebrate with her in this moment.
