"Emily!" I yell running through the door of our house and slamming it shut. I look around frantically, trying to find my little sister.

I run to the living room and see my deadbeat father passed out on the couch, as usual, when he's supposed to be watching my six year old sister. I roll my eyes and run upstairs to my sisters room to see her sitting in the corner with her hands over her ears, crying.

I run to her and pull her into a hug. She jumps not expecting it, but hugs me back almost immediately.
"Are you okay, Em?" I ask looking into her eyes with concern. She nods just as we hear a scream coming from outside. She looks at me worriedly, "What's going on, Lyla?" She asks in the most innocent voice.
"I don't know sweetie, but we need to get out of here."

I sit her on her bed and give her Mr. Bear, a stuffed teddy she's had since she was born. I run to the closet and grab her pink backpack and stuff as many clothes as I can in there, we won't be coming back. I run to my room and do the same, also grabbing a picture of our mom and my locket with her and Emily in it.

"Alright, let's go." I say as I run back to Emily's room. She grabs my hand as we run down the stairs. I leave her at the bottom of the stairs as I grab a duffel bag and start filling it with as much food and water as I can.

I run back and grab Emily's hand, running outside to the car. As soon as we step out its like a scene from a horror movie. I see Mrs. Graham, our neighbor being attacked by these things, whatever they are. "Em, close your eyes. Don't look until I tell you to okay?" Emily does as she's told and we run to the car. I put her in the backseat with the bags and climb in the front.

"Lyla, what about daddy?" She asks with her hands still covering her eyes. I sigh and close my eyes. I had planned on leaving him there, after all he's done to us..to me. But I know that I can't. "Okay, Emily, listen to me. I'm going to go back for daddy. You stay right here and keep the doors locked. Don't open them for anyone, alright?" She keeps her hands over her eyes, too afraid to look. "Okay."

I run back to the house, locking the car doors in the process. I open the door and walk into the living room. He's still in the same spot, having not moved an inch. "Dad!" I yell shaking him. He doesn't move. I shake him harder, still not getting anything. I sigh and lean back just as I hear the door being broke down. I look back at my dad, still passed out, and decide what I should do. I run to the kitchen and grab a knife. I hear growls coming from the living room. I walk in there seeing one of those things heading straight to my dad. I could easily try to save him. Instead I run the other way, just as I hear my dad's screams as that thing bites into him.

I run out the front door and see one of those things at the car, scraping on Emily's window. I hear her blood curdling scream and my desire to protect her at all costs kicks in. I run to the thing and stab it in the back with the kitchen knife. It turns around and I see it up close. It's eyes are bloodshot and its skin a pale grey. It runs towards me with blood dripping down its face. I back away and it knocks me to the ground. "Lyla!" I hear Emily scream from inside the car. I fight off the thing and stab it repeatedly in the heart. I get up thinking it's dead, but it's still coming. "No way.." I say under my breath, astonished. How is it still alive? It comes running at me full speed and I stab it straight through the eye. It falls to the ground with a thud, dead.

I sigh, realizing it's really dead now and jump in the drivers seat of the car. "Are you okay, Lyla?" Emily asks looking at me with frightened eyes. I look at her through the rear view mirror, "Yeah, I'm fine."

"What happened to daddy?" Emily asks. I close my eyes as tears fall down my face. It's my fault he's dead, I could've saved him. "I tried to save him, Em, but it was too late." I say lying to my little sister as we drive off, away from this horrible place.
