"Wait! You can't just leave!" Remi said, getting up. "We have to steal my phone back."
Christy glared at him. "We? Oh, you mean you and that huge, ugly pimple on your cheek, coz I'm out of here."
She walked out. He followed her.
"What? You have got to help me! You know, this was partly your fault." He said, running after her. She stopped.
"What?? My fault? How is it my fault?!"
"He heard you say his name and that's why he came after me. None of this would have happened if you hadn't said his name." Remi pointed out.
"It's not my fault!" Christy said, indignantly. "I warned you, but you didn't listen! How dare you blame me?" She turned and continued on her way.
"Oh, Christy, please!" He begged, pulling her back. "I'd get into trouble with my mom if I don't turn up with that phone. You have to help me."
"You should have thought of that before taking pics of your foot in class!" She snapped, saw his face, sighed and said, "Fine, I'd help you."
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" He sang. Christy rolled her eyes.
"If we're stealing...I mean, getting anything back, now would be the best time. Teachers have all gone to the cafeteria. We've got one hour for break." She said. Remi nodded and they ran towards Mr. Peter's office.
They saw him walk down the stairs towards the cafe. Remi made sure he was really gone and then came back and said, "He's gone. So, you go in. I'll stand and watch to see if anyone is coming."
Christy looked up, "What?"
"I said I'd stay out here and keep a look out while you go get the phone." Remi repeated.
"No! You're going to go in and get your phone, and I'd be the look out." Christy told him.
"No, you won't. I'd wait here, you'd go in." Remi insisted, pushing Christy towards the door. She hit his hand off her and glared at him.
"Except you're willing to get the phone and be the lookout at the same time, you're doing this my way. I'd be the look out, and you'd go in and get the phone. Either that, or forget it." She said, raising her brows.
"Oh, Christy, please. If I get caught, I'd be in deep trouble. My mom's warned me that if I get put on detention this term, I'm toast."
Christy raised her eyebrows again and cleared her throat. "What if I get caught? I'd be toast too."
"Yes, but your punishment will be way less than mine. Mine would be greater because I have a terrible reputation which you know about. You, on the other hand, have a perfect reputation." He reasoned.
"Hmm...you do have a point there." Christy agreed. Remi did have a bad reputation. He was once known as the school's prankster. It started with him putting gas balloons on the boys chairs to putting spiders in Miss Akin's purse. Christy thought.
If he's caught doing something against the rules, he'd be in serious trouble, but with me...
"Pleeeaassee." He begged.
"Okay...fiiinnee. I'd go in." She sighed. "Keep your eyes peeled." She warned and pushed the door open.
Mr. Peter's office was really neat. "Wow, who knew Mr. Peter could be this tidy?" She looked around.
"Now, where's that bag?" She muttered. She found it on his chair, unzipped it and found the phone. "Bingo!" She slipped it in her pocket and had begun to head for the exit very quickly when Remi's head suddenly popped in. He looked alarmed, really alarmed; "Mayday, Mayday!"
Christy paused, "What?"
"He's coming!" Remi spun on his heel, leaving a seriously alarmed Christy in the office.
"What? How can he be coming? He's supposed to be having lunch with the other...ugh! What do I do? What do I do? Dang it, he's here!"
Mr. Peter stopped in surprise. "Can I help you, Miss...?"
"Oh...er, no! I...no." she said, lamely.
He raised his brows. "Then...why're you here?"
"Er... it's...it's actually a very funny story. You'd be laughing when I'm done." Christy thought desperately. Mr. Peter stood waiting, with a curious look on his face. "You see, I...I was passing over to the...um...the cafeteria when I...I thought I saw a movement in your office. I...I...erm peeked in and was shocked to see a...a huge...rabbit...yes! A huge rabbit tearing through your papers and stuff. So, I...so, I, ran in here and we had a huge fight, but I conquered him and...stuff." Mr. Peter stared at her in bewilderment. She chuckled nervously.
"Did you just tell me that you saw a rabbit in my office, eating up my papers and books?" He questioned. Christy nodded slowly. She was sure of her death now. Mr. Peter sighed tiredly.
"Not Carrots again." He said, bitterly.
"Carrots?" Christy repeated. Her teacher nodded.
"Yes, Carrots. That's the name of the rabbit you saw." He sighed again. "He's my old nemesis and he's back!"
"You mean there's really such a rabbit?" Christy asked lamely. Mr. Peter gave her a funny look.
"Yes. Didn't you see a rabbit?" He asked back.
"Rabbit?" Christy was momentarily confused. "I...I mean, yes. I most definitely did see a rabbit." She said. Mr. Peter nodded again. He looked really tired. He then went on to tell the story of Carrots to a very puzzled Christy.
By the time she was released from the office, Christy was fuming. She looked around for Remi. "That beast!" She spat. "He couldn't even wait around. He left me here. What if I got into trouble?"
"Hey Christy." Remi said, coming from behind a huge door that led to the Chemistry lab. "How'd your escape go?" He asked, with a very guilty smile. He knew she was mad.
She glared at him wordlessly and walked away.
"Christy, I'm sorry!" Remi called after her.
The bell rang, signalling break over. The hall monitors rushed out, "Get to class, everybody! Get to class!"
