His mother came to pick him up that morning, and she was pretty glad to see him. She hugged him tightly and stroked his hair. "Oh, Mason, I'm so glad you get to come home....." She whispered into his ear. He grumbled a few choice words and pushed her away gently.
"Okay mom, let's go." He said, walking to the car. He wanted to get away from the place as soon as possible. He had hated it there. Absolutely hated it. He was glad to get home, actually. His mother always forgave him but his father didn't. His father wasn't abusive, but he yelled and threatened. It had been that way all of Mason's life.
His mother nodded her head, getting into the car. "Okay, but first we have to go to your school and fill out some paperwork." Mason rolled his eyes and laid his head back, nodding okay. They drove off and away from the detention center. Hopefully this would be the first and last time this happened.

The two got out of the car and walked up the steps of the school and into the big building, making their way to the office. It was Friday and school hadn't been let out yet, so there were students still roaming around in the office and in the hallways. Mason's mother led him to the front desk where a lady set her phone down and looked up at them. She must have been the secretary.
"Why, hello again Mrs. Long, I've got the forms right here for you, just give me a minute." She got up and went around back then came back out, handing his mom a few sheets of paper and a pen. She glanced over at Mason. "You must be Mason Long, welcome to Georges Creek High School." She smiled at him, extending her arm. He took her hand and shook it, giving her a brief smile and nod.Chapter One
Her friends crowded around her as she sat at the lunch table. "So what happened yesterday?" Alyson, the smarter, more realistic one of the group asked. "I saw you in Principal Owens' office when I passed by." She set her books on the table, looking at Delaney.
"Yeah, I saw you waiting outside and I wondered what was going on. Well, I wondered why I wasn't sitting there with you..." Gracie nodded her head. She was more bubbly than Alyson, and was a trouble maker sometimes. "Did you get into a fight?"
Delaney laughed, nodding her head. "I wouldn't call it a fight, considering she didn't hit back." She crossed her arms. "I mean, I just slapped her because she was pissing me off and Mr. Owens just happened to be walking by and caught me. It was just a detention girls, nothing to worry about." She opened her neat binder and took out a small, yellow slip of paper, showing it to them. All it was was a detention slip.
"What is that now, third time so far this year?" Erika chuckled, taking the piece of paper to examine herself. She was probably, personality wise, in between Alyson and Gracie. She was laid back at times, but other times she would make fall the girls all out of their chairs laughing. She was probably the more comedic one of the 'clique'.
Their clique didn't have a name, but they all knew that Delaney was the head of the group. She was the meanest out of all of them. The rudest, the most flirty. And that's why she was called all those names; 'Whore', 'Slut', and many other names. She wasn't really any of those, she didn't go around night after night hooking up with different guys. Just because of her personality, people assumed she was like this. But she was so used to it, she didn't mind anymore.
Erika handed the paper back and she put it away in her binder. Then Gracie began to talk. "So there's a party on Friday night, I think Jordan Burrows is having it at his house because his parents went on their anniversary or something. But he asked me to tell you that we'll all invited if we wanted to go." She looked at Delaney. "Should we?"
"If we have nothing else to do." Delaney nodded her head. "Then sure." All their heads went up as they heard a lot more whispering and talking than a few minutes ago and saw a guy about their age walk into the lunch room. He looked new- well, at least none of the four girls recognized his face.
"Who is that?" Alyson whispered.
Erika shrugged. "I don't know...."
"Me neither." Gracie looked at him as he walked over to their table, a small smirk plastered on his face.
"Can I sit here?" He asked. The three girls turned their heads to Delaney, who studied the unknown boy and nodded her head.
"Go ahead." She said, emotionless, still trying to figure out who the hell this guy was. There was usually some sort of rumors going around if there was going to be a new kid- but she had heard nothing of the sort in the past week, He nodded his head and sat down. Erika, Gracie, and Alyson all moved closer to Delaney, as if he had some sort of contagious disease.
Delaney shook her head, laughing a bit. "Don't worry girls, he won't bite you. I'll make sure he won't." She gave him a small glare before returning to their normal conversations.
