There's always one

Do you know that one person who has been with you ever since childhood and no matter how much you try, you can never get them to stop bugging you? That one person who loves to be annoying just to get a reaction of anger or frustration out of you and then laugh and hold it over your head for the next two years? I do. And he goes by the name Draco Lucius Malfoy.

Draco and I have been best friends ever since we were born and sometimes it feels longer. My parents always say it was as if we were raised in the same crib. Some days it felt like that, almost every day we spent together either at his manor or mine. So we never had to worry about missing each other. Our families were so close anyone could have mistaken us for one large family that had a shocking difference in appearance.

It was Wednesday, so that meant I was going to Malfoy Manor for the night. My parents and Draco's parents agreed that every Wednesday I would go to the Malfoy Manor for the night and every Friday, Draco would stay at the Lyn Manor. Draco and I never really knew why this arrangement was necessary and whenever I would ask my parents they would simply reply

"We need some Mummy and Daddy time."

I decided it was best not to question what 'mummy and daddy time' was. But whatever it was kept my parents in a good mood and gave Draco and me another excuse to see each other, so we didn't complain.

"Katie dear, have you got everything packed?" My Mother questioned.

"Yes, toothbrush, hairbrush, pj's, slippers, undies, and socks," I said as I triple checked I had everything.

"Okay, your Father and I have to leave a little bit earlier today so I want you to use the floo powder. Be good and tell Cissy I said hi." My mother told me as she placed a small kiss on my forehead. My mother was someone who openly expressed her love for me with forehead kisses and pet names such as dear, sweetie, and lovely. My Father too expressed his love for me but in a slightly different manner. Instead of small forehead kisses, he gave big, wet cheek kisses and instead of pet names, he called me menace or ratbag. Both of my parents thought very highly of me, sometimes a little too high. I knew I was smart, for an 11-year-old but they went over the top. They loved to flaunt me to relatives and friends and over time I forgot to care. I kind of liked the attention. But that was a year ago and I would be lying if I said a lot didn't change.
