The train was huge, to say the least. Larger than any other train I'd ever seen. It looked like it ate regular trains in London for lunch! My Hogwarts letter had finally arrived and as soon as it did, I owled Draco. In less than a minute of writing to him, his black owl had returned with a letter stating that he too had received his letter. We were attending Hogwarts together! Now we stood on platform 9 3/4 watching all the children kiss and hug their parents goodbye. My mother was dropping Draco and me off. Narcissa had to help my Father at the ministry with some classified work and Draco's dad was in his study or as Draco would call it, his box. Draco knows that Lucius loves him, he just didn't have the time to spend with him.
There were at least 10 000 people on this platform and that made me nervous. I was raised away from society so large crowds were quite intimidating. While I observed the surrounding children, Draco and my mother began to check everything was in order before we got on the train. Whilst looking around I noticed a young girl, who appeared no older than me staring dreamily at me. Or so I thought. I moved slightly to see if her eyes would follow but they didn't. I then followed her gaze directly to Draco's face. She was staring at Draco. Suddenly, my chest felt as if it collasped on itself as I thought about the brown-haired girl fancying Draco. She had emerald green eyes that could cut through you like daggers, a diamond-shaped face, and short brown hair styled perfectly into a bob. To say she was pretty was an understatement. As I marveled at her perfect features, a thought had occurred. She was pretty in fact she was beautiful, prettier than me. And for some reason that made the hole in my chest feel bigger. I was pulled from my thoughts when my Mother put her hand on my shoulder and said
"ready to go dear?"
"Hm? Oh! Yes! Yes, let's go." I quickly blurted out.
My mother gave me one last quick kiss and Draco and I boarded the Hogwarts Express. Being the first years, we struggled at first to find a compartment but eventually found an empty one towards the back of the train. Draco took both of our luggage and placed them in the overhead storage spaces as we took our seats.
"Hey, are you alright Kats?" Draco asked, worry thick in his voice. Kats was a nickname he liked to call me and in return, I called him Dray.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?" I responded, I was amazed at how he noticed every little change in my behavior and mood like he felt it all himself. But I shouldn't be, He's Draco Lucius Malfoy. Everything he does amazes me.
"I don't know, at the station you seemed down or distracted?" Draco replied.
"I'm okay. I promise, just some jitters I guess." I smiled back.
His face softened and he simply nodded and returned my smile. He then opened his arms, gesturing me to go next to him. I immediately moved closer to him and put my head on his chest as he wrapped his arms around me.
"Their gonna love you Kats. I promise." He whispered in my hair. I smiled at this. If I was being honest, I was nervous. I was nervous that I would get sorted into a house my parents disapproved of and I was nervous that I wouldn't fit in, but most of all I was nervous I was going to lose my best friend to a certain brunette girl. The train ride to Hogwarts was long and it gave me plenty of time to think of a solution to my little dilemma. It came down to two options.
One: Befriend her and earn her trust. That way it was against the girl code for her to steal Draco.
OR
Two: You become mortal enemies and it's a fight to see who wins.
As well as being nervous, I was also confused. Confused to as why this girl's potential love interest in Draco was taking up all my thought space and time. Why does it matter if she dates him or not? You and Draco would always be best friends. But then you began to wonder if that was going to be enough. It's not like you liked him or anything...Right?
