It's warm outside. The stars are shining brightly. As always, the night sky reminds me of the boy I used to like.
I click my tongue. That's all over now, though. And tonight will prove that. I am going to face him, talk to him, and feel absolutely nothing. I am sure of it.
The school still looks the same. Ten years after I first entered this building, barely anything has changed. It's almost sad.
A little bit of nervosity fills my heart as I step inside. How stupid. People's opinions never mattered to me. So why...?
I am glad that it is cooler inside. I can't stand heat very well. Obviously, winter is better than summer, too. It just so had to be that this reunion takes place during the hottest month of the year, huh.
Soon, I find myself in front of a gym's doors. Behind it, I will find every graduate from my year. Including my former best friend. Hopefully, nobody will notice for a while.
But it seems I have no such luck. A grown-up, but still overly energetic orange haired boy notices me as soon as I come in. 'Tsukishima!' he yells.
Is it too late to turn back? It's only been a second, but Hinata is already tiring me out. And it seems he has found both Kageyama and Yamaguchi, too. Great.
Yes, I came here to move on, but... I wouldn't have minded waiting a little longer until I reunite with the boy who was once so important to me. Especially now that the idiot duo is involved.
Slowly, I approach the trio. Despite trying to avoid looking at Yamaguchi, it is like my eyes are naturally drawn to him. I notice how my heart skips a beat. Damn it.
There's an awkward air between the two of us. It doesn't surprise me. Without saying a word, I left to a foreign country for my studies. Every attempt he made at contacting me was either ignored or quickly shut down.
The other two losers seem to be completely unaware of that, though. 'Tsukishima,' the tiny tangerine begins again, 'you have to tell us about your travels! And when did you let your hair grow out?! Oh, and also, how do they play volleyball over there?'
'Don't you have to greet him first, idiot?' Kageyama sighs, smacking him in the back of his head. At least one of them seems to have matured.
'But I wanna hear it! And it's not like he would say anything otherwise!' Hinata pouts. 'And don't hit me!'
'If all you can do is yell at each other, I'll be going.' With a sigh, I turn around. At least it's over.
Or not. Someone softly tugs at my sleeve. When I turn back, I did not expect to find Yamaguchi hanging on to me. I thought it would be Hinata...
'Ah, sorry...' His voice is still as sweet as it was all those years ago. The only difference is the shy tone.
He has already let go of me by the time I shake myself out of my thoughts. 'What is it?'
'I just wanted to say hi, I guess...?' he says, sounding as insecure as I feel.
'Oh. Uh. Hello...' Maybe this was a bad idea. I can just barely manage to keep my heartbeat at a decent rate.
We stand in silence for a second, until laughter comes from my right. 'What are you two acting so weird for?' Hinata points at us.
'Would you just leave people alone for a minute?!' Kageyama yells with his usual aggression. Well, usual... I can't say that when I haven't seen anyone for about seven years.
'But they are acting strange! And he still hasn't told us anything yet,' the other cries even louder.
Well, I warned them. Being here is tiring. Maybe there's someone else around to talk to.
