Chapter 16

"So, it's true?" El says.

"Oh, it's true." finishes Ms.Guérir.

Rolling my eyes, I focus on the monitors as I continue to hear them chat in the background.

It's not that obvious, right?

"Geez Mes," I say as my wrist starts to cramp from how tight Mes was pulling. "You don't have to pull me this hard. I'm not a dog."

"Yeah, but if I didn't you would have never left." Mes said letting go.

We finally reach Mes's car and I hop into the passenger seat. Mes sits down next to me, in the driver seat as he looks me over.

"Who made your costume?" Mes asks. He didn't sound disappointed, but he looked honestly curious.

"Oh, it was an old lady I met a while back." I say as I brush off his stare. I didn't really want to go into detail about it since it was pretty traumatic.

Mes hums as he starts the car. The ride was a comfortable silence as the radio was on, not to music though. It was a random talk show, but there wasn't much to talk about.

"Do you like him?" I hear Mes say breaking the silence.

My eyes widen from the shocking question, since I wasn't really expecting something like that.

I look toward him to see his facial expressions, but it was just neutral as he was still staring at the road.

"Who?" I ask.

"You know who," Mes says as he glances at me while he makes a turn. "Dabi."

Not wanting to think too much about it, I look toward the road. "I don't know." I answer truthfully.

I didn't want to say something that I would later regret since I wasn't sure about my emotions.

"You know, I see him staring at you a lot." Mes says as he laughs softly. "It takes all the attention away from me."

I laugh at his little comment as it lightens the calm mood. "I would never." I say as I see us nearing the Hero Headquarters.

"Can I ask you a question?" Mes says as he pulls into the parking lot. He continues to search for a parking spot as he waits for my response.

"Sure." I respond.

"Would you ever date him?" Mes says as he backs into a parking spot securing it. He puts the car in park as he turns toward me.

I can feel my heart beating at a faster pace than normal, but I don't think I'm nervous, or well I shouldn't be.

"Well," I start. I can feel some hesitation in my voice, before I give myself the courage. "No."

I can see Mes face falter at my blunt response. He seems like he was trying to see if I was lying or not, but couldn't tell. "Why not?"

Looking at Mes, I keep a straight face. "Because I'm a hero and he's a villain." I say as I unbuckle my seatbelt. "We don't mix."

As I open the door, Mes starts the car back up. "You'd be surprised at what love brings you to do."

With that, Mes skirts off leaving me in front of the building filled with heroes I was about to deceive.

As I walk into the lobby of the building, I see Riot, Mt. Lady and Woods.

"She's just been acting different." Mt. Lady says.
