The pain was almost unbearable; an indescribable heat and tug assalting her body from the inside out. Korra felt the rush of power, coupled with the almost eternal sense of agony that accompanied it. it drowned her senses with everything becoming consumed in the white hot haze that was her mind. She was vaguely aware of agonized cries and grunts that she eventually identified as her own. Was a person's voice supposed to sound like a dozen dying hog-monkeys? But still she was a live, although the young avatar was certain anyone else would have probably passed out, or even died from the amount of pain that her body was currently going through.
Noise and multiple shouts of shock reached her ears, making them hurt.
With everything spinning, and muted, Korra had almost forgotten the audience of hers that were but a few feet away. With difficulty, Korra managed to raise her head and turn to where her friends were backed aginst a corner. They all were in positions ready to fight something....but there wasn't anyone else her but them as far as she remembered. Tenzin, Lin, Mako, Bolin, Opal....and Asami. They were all there, but had looks of shock and horror etched onto their features. They were all staring in her direction...why were they loking at her like that? Why weren't they helping her when she was in so much pain that she wanted to die?
Asami...the young CEO was still as a statue. Her green eyes were wide open in fright. But why...Korra reached out her hand towards her, or at least tried, hoping that she would help, and choked back a cry when she saw the appendage in front of her. Tanned skin was replaced with rapidly growing fur, shaggy and brown along the length of her arm, and was spreading even farther from what she couold see. Her hand though...nails or more like claws, long and black were potruding from her finger tips. Blood was leaking around the nail bed. A steady drip drip was passing such a strong and heavenlt scent to her now sensitive nose, and Korra had to resist licking it away in pleasure. The entire hand was morphing (Korra could still feel the pain in her body, as she guessed all of her was changing to match) from a human hand, to a large canine paw, her human fingers shortening.
It al happened in a matter of seconds, but it felt like eternity.
After seeing this, Korra finally understood. Before she went under the call of inky blackness, the expressions on each ofher friend's faces was recognized. They were afraid all right...afraid of her.
Unconsciousness and then the unnatural howl that reverberated in the small cell.
