Hey guys! All necessary information is listed in the story description. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did writing it:)
Narrator:
The sound of an alarm abruptly wakes up Annalyn Mayroll. The barely risen sun peaks through her curtains as she let's out a big yawn and slides her sheets to the left side of her bed. She stretches and reaches for the brush on her dresser beside her bed. Her hair appears as a birds nest. The part is no longer there and her hair has created many little knots.
As she combes the tangled knots out of her hair, she begins to hear her crow Anius peck on her window, returning from the night before. She walks around her bed and opens the curtains, revealing her room to the light outside. She unlocks the window and welcomes the handsome crow inside. Anius immediately perches on Annalyn's shoulder then she walks over to her mirror in the corner of her room. The mirror was large and had a black exterior.
As she examined herself in the mirror, she had recognized remaining flour in her hair from the day before. All day yesterday she had spent it with her mother baking blueberry muffins for the professors. School would be starting soon, so the muffins are an appreciation gift for a year of education ahead. Every student is required to bring a gift for there professors every year.
Annalyn dusted the flour out of her long, silky, brown hair and changed out of her sleeping gown. She wore a long sleeve, black shirt with Light blue jeans and her black flats.
After changing into her outfit, Annalyn headed downstairs. At the bottom of the staircase Annalyn's mother, Noelle Mayroll awaited her in the kitchen. The kitchen had dark oak cabinets and dark granite countertops. Above the sink was a window and dark red velvet curtains hung above it. Every morning her mother opens the curtains, so the outer light was brightening the kitchen.
In a separate room near by, was the dining room. Annalyn started towards the dining room with Noelle following close behind. Noelle was carrying a batch of fresh blueberry muffins in her hands. Annalyn opened the glass doors and entered the dining room. The dining table along with the chairs was made of dark oak. It was a large table for just the two of them. The table was decorated with two tall red wax candles and a bouquet of black roses in the middle. The walls were painted a dark forest green and under the table was a large sized carpet with designs of black vines. To brighten the room there was a big window by the far end of the dining table. The curtains were a navy blue in this room, most of the time the curtains were open.
Annalyn took a seat at the table and her mother sat down across from her after placing the plate of fresh muffins on the table between them. Anius perched on the tucked in chair at the end of the table.
Annalyn's pov:
I break the silence by starting a conversation "Good morning mother, how'd you sleep?" Mother replies with "well I went to sleep quite late last night, trying to finish the few last batches of muffins. But other than that I actually slept quite good. How about you my darling?" My mother's eyes looked heavy as she spoke, she must've been lying to me. I replied in obvious denial to what she had told me "uhh good mother, maybe you can get more rest while I'm gone today. Oh and I slept well. I woke up with flour remaining in my hair." Her mother swayed side to side while blinking longfully. "Oh well that's silly, where are you going today?" She seemed she could barely stay awake. "Mother you're lying. When I leave go get some rest, Promise?" My mother nodded her head sleepily, "promise. Now where is it you're going?" My mother said with her voice quiet and cracking. "I'm going on a walk to the beach with Anius today. I shall return in time for supper." My mother nodded her head and stood up to hug me goodbye. "Love you Anna, be safe" she said in a quiet loving voice, kissed me on the forehead and off me and Anius went.
Me and Anius followed a thin dirt path to the beach, It's about a five minute walk from the house. When we arrived at the beach I spread a picnic blanket on the cold sand and watched the waves crash. Anius pecked at the wet sand when the waves receaded to find sea shells.
"I love how peaceful and quiet it is here. Not to mention we don't have to worry about anyone else, we have all this land to ourselves." Anius let out a loud squack to assure her that he was listening. "But the thing is, I want to escape so bad. I want to see the city and meet new people." Anius saw a tear roll down my face and flew over right next to me. I allowed myself to continue while holding back tears. "You see, I've only explored the school grounds, and this land. Yes I love living here but I just feel like there's so much more to see, So many more stories I could have. There's no one here but me and my mom..." as another tear runs down my face, Anius cozied himself in between my legs to comfort me. "The girls at school are so, how do I say it?... self absorbed, rude, and basic."
I wipe my tears away as I grow angry. "They want to upset the balance of nature and magic! I hate them! I really do." My face turns pink and I calm myself back down again, then I begin to lightly pet Anius on his head. "It's alright, one day I'll explore the places my father told me about." I layed back on my picnic blanket, Anius still cozied between my legs and watched the clouds flow through the blue atmosphere. The sound of the ocean put my mind at ease. I sat back up to wake Anius, he awoke to my words "Let's head back home."
When I arrive back home, I inform my mother that I have returned and then go to my room to study. I pull out my Spell&Potions book along with a brand new, empty journal to take notes. While I study, Anius takes a nap on the little wooden perch I made him last year in my woodland class.
I remember how fun that class was, We learned about forests and the plants and creatures within. The perch I made was from our woodland creature project. We had to build something for a wild creature of some sort.
To begin the project, my class went on a walk through the forest to find the wood we would use for our project. Then the next two weeks we spent hours on end carving and shaping our projects to our perfect expectations.
I'm taking the same class this year but it's said to be more enhanced. Shouldn't be too hard, I thought to myself. Woodlands class has always been fun. After studying for an hour or so my mother called me down for dinner. "ANNALYN, DINNERS READY" the sound of her raising her voice echoed up the stairs. I giggled and ran downstairs.
We met in the dining room. The curtains were still open and the candles on the table were lit. Displayed on the table for us to eat was mashed potatoes, hot gravy, two large steaks, a bowl of berries, and a plate of remaining blueberry muffins. After a calm, quiet, and basic dinner me and my mother settled down for the night. I went back up to my room and changed into some pajamas. Tonight I'm wearing a black- silk night gown. I released Anius into the black night, closed my curtains and went to sleep.Annalyn's appearance:
