Never let your guard down.

That's what my father had told me the day I left the hospital. He didn't baby me and tell me that I would be okay. Instead, he told me that what I did was reckless and it could have cost me my life if the unit was not there to protect me.

I cried as my father lectured me. I had been frightened to even sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, it was like I was being attacked once again. My mother had to sit on my bed til I fell asleep, for at least two months after the incident.

Father had forced me to go back to the tracking unit, he said I had too much potential to throw it all away because of fear. He trained me harder than my brothers, pushed me to my limits. Even put me to train with our beta. I had grown strong, and the fear seemed to fade away.

That was until I had to go on another mission.

"What is that!"

My head almost broke at how fast it turned to catch the scrawny woman yell. She was thin but slightly taller than I.

"Esmeralda, go to your room. The Alpha requests privacy at this moment," beta Arius snarled in her direction.

She stuck her hand up, "this better not be what I think it is," and with that, she walked away.

Pandora, don't think too much into this.

I could hear my inner wolf plead, but the gears in my head were already churning. This better not be what I think it is, or else the pack will be one member short by the morning.

I am the Luna,

No one will take this from me.

I followed behind Arius, stomping up the stair case as to show my vexation at the scene that had just occurred. I saw beta Arius slightly jump at the first stomp, but relaxed as I continued my childish display.

This was a warning.

A small one.

I won't tolerate people like her. Not while I am here. I never tolerated such behavior, not even back at Rockwell Pack. Sure, I would smile and nod, but that was simply for my mothers benefit. Most left me alone due to my position in the pack, or because they wanted nothing to do with me. Nothing to do with the girl who became a Tracker.

My mate stayed quiet as we walked through the halls only turning to me to say goodnight.

His room was across from mine.

Beta Arius opened the door, gesturing me to go inside, " beta Arius, I have no clothes to sleep in."

"No worries, Ms. Lorcan, I will bring you some. Here," he handed me a small notepad and pen, "I will need a list of your clothing sizes and shoes."

I pushed the notepad back to him, "there's no need, my mother will ship me my things when they arrive home."

He put the notepad onto the bed, "it will take sometime to arrive. Please just write it down Ms. Lorcan, I will be right back"

I quickly jotted down my sizes on the notepad, wanting to explore my room before he came back. The room was large with a queen bed at the center. A wardrobe stood against the wall to my right, a medium sized dresser across from me, and a door to my left.

I pushed the door open to reveal a bathroom. It looked like the rest of the house, following the color scheme of white and gold. It has a nice porcelain tub, a sink, and toilet. Nothing too fancy.

It was a bathroom after all.

"Ms.Lorcan," he pushed the door open. "Here you are," it was a large shirt and shorts. He bowed slightly before heading to the door

"Wait," I grabbed at his shirt. "Why do you keep calling me that? Has the Alpha not informed you who I am?"

"Yes."

"Then....I don't understand. I am your Lu-"

"I'm sorry Ms.Lorcan," he gulped, "but it seems that I will be the one to share the news."

My hands turned to fists as I recalled the event from earlier. For her safety, I hope Arius chooses his words carefully.

"Alpha Eros had decided long ago that when he found his mate, a Luna trial would be held," he moved closer. "Luna," he whispered, "I do hope you win. You are the rightful Luna to Bloodmoon, but the trials are tradition. Any female who thinks she is worthy will compete and try to take your title, the winner will become the new Luna. This is our way."

I stood from my sitting position, "this is ridiculous! Fate has chosen me to lead"

"I understand. But our ancestors have always chosen this way, and very rarely does another become Luna," he tried to make me feel better. "Bloodmoon holds a high reputation, and no wolf is to interfere. Not even the Luna. Bloodmoon is for the strong, not the weak."

I began to pace the room, "If I were to lose, what would become of me"

"I am positive the Alpha would offer you a high position of leading the Trackers. We don't have many, and from our understanding you are one of the best,"

I pointed to my chest, "not one of the best, I am the best"

"Or you would be able to return to Rockwell. The decision would be yours."

Ha! Like I'd ever return to Rockwell

I chuckled, "It seems that the goddess hates me. I always questioned it, but now I know for sure," my teeth grit together.

"I am sorry, Ms.Lorcan. For what it is worth, I hope you win," he left the room with a pity smile thrown my way.

It seems as if life always finds a way to screw me over. It also seems like I would have to take a note from my mother, I need to pretend to be the perfect mate. I need to make sure my mate has no other female in mind, perhaps then I could get him to wash away with this stupid tradition.

I began to strip of my dress and throw on the new clothes, a hint of cinnamon wafting through my nose. So these were his clothes? I could make do with this.

A plan was starting to form as my head hit the pillow.

A woman was going to bring an alpha to his knees.
