areum, walking over to jaemin's house, couldn't help but replay the moment in her head.
i'm moving. i leave tomorrow. i'm moving. i leave tomorrow. i'm moving. i leave tomorrow. i'm moving. i leave tomorrow.
as she approached her now ex-boyfriend's house, she saw him on the steps. he had heard her footsteps, and looked up. no matter how sad the two were, they still cracked genuine, soft smiles as they made eye contact.
jaemin stood up and held a box behind his back, as did areum. "do you wanna go first?" he asked, hoping she would say yes, and she did. she handed him the small box covered in wrapping paper. jaemin smiled as he put his own box down to tear away the wrapping paper from the one she had just given him.
once he opened the box, his heart stopped. he couldn't help the smile on his face. he loved the gift, and he couldn't help but think about how much he loved her. to anyone else, it would've been a normal gift but to jaemin it meant the world.
a silver bracelet with a 'j' and 'a' on it. obviously standing for 'jaemin and areum'. jaemin smiled down at the girl and wrapped his arms around her, "thank you, reum. i love it." "i'm glad." jaemin handed over a box to areum and she didn't hesitate to open it.
a locket with a silver chain and inside the heart-shaped locket, a picture of the two from their first date, almost four months ago. areum smiled. she couldn't help herself and threw her arms around his neck, thanking him continuously. "thank you thank you thank you!"
jaemin chuckled, turning her around. she held her hair up, and he connected the necklace. she turned back and smiled, "thank you, jaemin. it's really beautiful." jaemin smiled and nodded.
it was getting chilly and areum wanted to get back home before her parents got up. "i should go." she mumbled and jaemin nodded. he bought her into one, last hug. he bent down and kissed her forehead, "i love you, lee aareum."
"i love you, too, jaem." she whispered, holding back her tears before pulling away. she smiled at him one last time and began her journey home. jaemin watched her walk away, and broke down once she got out of sight. na jaemin truly did love lee areum. and he had just lost her.
areum snuck into her house, grateful her parents weren't awake but shocked to see donghyuck in the kitchen waiting for her. "where were you?" he asked, not even looking up from his phone. "i went to jaemin's to give him his gift a-and say goodbye." she replied, voice breaking with each word.
donghyuck finally looked up at his sister and immediately pulled her into a hug. he knew that jaemin didn't intentionally hurt her. it wasn't jaemin's fault his parents wanted to move and he didn't turn eighteen in august so he had to go with them. but donghyuck hated seeing his sister cry over a boy.
"it's okay, areum. it'll all be okay."
