CHAPTER ONE

——————————

"HI, I'M HERE TO SEE MICHAEL Scott? I just transferred from the Stamford branch."

Jessica Green stood by the reception desk, clad in a thick winter coat, a bag slung over her shoulder. The woman looked at the receptionist and smiled at her.

The receptionist stood up and extended her hand to Jessica, "Pam, it's nice to meet you," she said, returning the smile.

"It's nice to meet you too, I'm—"

She was cut off by a man walking through a door and loudly shouting across the small space, "Jessica! Jess! Jessie!" he gave her finger guns, ignoring the hand that she had offered for him to shake, "How are you doing today? Come on into my office!"

Jessica shared a glance with Pam, wondering what on earth she had gotten herself into, and hesitantly followed Michael into his office, where she took a seat across from him. There was a camera crew recording their whole interaction, but she already knew that it was for a documentary.

"So, you're here from Stamford?" he asked, looking her up and down. Jessica nodded, "yes, but I live closer to here so I've transferred."

"Well, Dunder Mifflin Scranton is the one place you want to be, that's for sure," Michael said, leaning back in his chair a little, laughing at his own words.

Jessica laughed awkwardly, "Can I um... find out where my desk is so I can start," she suggested, and Michael coughed slightly before saying, "Right! Yes!" and standing up, running to get to the door before her. He opened the door and held it open for her in an odd bow, and followed her out, almost slamming the door in his haste.

"Right, Jessie," Michael paused, "I'm going to call you Jessie, hope you don't mind," He said, ignoring Jessica's protests and leading her to an empty desk just outside his office, "This is your desk," he gestured to the empty desk before he turned to the two men on the ones next to her, "That's Dwight, and that's Jim," he said, pointing to each of them in turn.

Jessica sat down at the desk, using the login she had been given to log onto the computer. The man Michael had said was Jim had just finished up a call, and he turned to Jessica.

"So you're the transfer?" he asked, giving her a smile as he rested his chin on his hand. She couldn't help but think he looked cute.

Jessica nodded, shaking his hand, "I'm Jessica. It's Jim, right?"

"Yep. So, why'd you transfer?" he asked, and Jessica shrugged, "shorter commute, same pay, I thought I might as well."

"Makes sense."

She sighed, looking around at the camera crew that he been recording their entire conversation, "So um... what's with the camera crew?" she asked quietly, sending a glance in the direction of the man holding a camera next to her.

"Oh, Michael somehow managed to convince a company to make a documentary about Dunder Mifflin Scranton, they started filming about an hour before you got here," he said before lowering his voice, "between you and me, it's really weird having a camera directed at everything you do," he said as the cameramen moved onto someone else.
