“SAVANNAH WAKE UP!” Charlie screamed, causing me to groan.
“What do you want Charles?”
“You get to help me rehearse for my audition.” He said, throwing himself on the bed next to me.
I pulled my pillow over my head. “Go away.”
“Savannah!” Charlie whined, shaking my shoulders. “You promised.”
I rolled my eyes under my pillow. “I take it back.”
“Nuh-uh, you pinky promised.”
Ugh.
“Fine, but your buying breakfast.” I said, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.
Charlie cheered and jumped off my bed, doing a little dance.
“We’re getting pancakes!” He yelled, making me cringe and cover my ears.
“I’ll never understand how you have so much energy in the mornings.”
“Maybe I’m just excited to spend the day with you.”
“Cute.” I snorted, pulling off my covers and stretching. “But not cute enough to make me eat pancakes.”

Please!” Charlie pleaded, sticking out his lip and turning to look at me.
“No Char.”
“Just this one time.”
“Fine.” I sighed, looking out the window as the houses passed by. “Just keep your eyes on the road.”
“Ok deal.” He smiled quickly, glancing at me out of the corner of his eye.
“Gillespie.” I warned.
He laughed and retreated his eyes back to the road. “Ok fine.”
“I can’t believe your making me stay.” I grumbled, crossing my arms.
“I need my best friend at the sidelines in case I get nervous.” He pouted, drumming his fingers on the wheel.
“You’ll do fine Char.” I said, rolling my eyes and taking his anxious hand in mine. “I promise.”
Charlie pulled into the lot and started breathing a bit faster.
He pulled into a parking spot and shut off the car before turning to look at me.
“Thank you.”
“Of course.” I whispered, glancing in his eyes.
He gave me a nervous smile before getting out of the car, me following soon after.
I linked my arm into his and pulled him forwards.
“C'mon Charles, we have work to do.”

“You’re our band!” Kenny yelled, causing Charlie to jump off stage and pick me up, shouting into my ear.
“We did it Sav, I’m in the show!”
I giggled as he spun me around, a blush rising to my cheeks.
“We did it!” I yelled, cheering with the rest of the crew.
“Filming starts in three months in Vancouver. I’m so excited to work with you all.” Kenny announced, resulting in Charlie squeezing my shoulders.
“I did it.” He whispered, his smile never leaving his face.
“You did! Now c'mon dork, lets get some ice cream.”

“Oh my god this is so good.” Charlie moaned, shoveling another bite into his mouth.
“Char, its not that good.”
“Are you crazy?! This is the best ice cream in the world.”
I rolled my eyes at him, taking another spoonful from my cup.
Charlie reached over, stealing a bite from mine.
“Charlie you have your own!” I whined, swatting his hand away.
“Yours taste better.”
I sighed and pushed him my cup, which he happily took as he shoveled more ice cream in his mouth. At this point, he looked like a chipmunk.
I giggled as his cheeks inflated, causing him to look up at me.
“What?” He managed to ask through a mouthful of ice cream.
“You’re a dork Char.”
“Yeah, but I’m your dork.”
My heart stopped as he said that, a blush spreading across my face.
Charlie noticed my flushed expression.
“I mean it Sav. You’re stuck with me for life now. I can’t function without my best friend.”
There it was. The bittersweet reality that I was nothing more than a friend to Charlie, and that’s all we could ever be. Even if he liked me back, I would never jeopardize our friendship.
“You’re stuck with me too. Just don’t forget about me when you’re all big and famous.”
“I couldn’t ever forget you Sav.”

The whole way home, I replayed the situation in my head. I knew I was in love with Charlie, but I couldn’t ever risk losing him. That would hurt so much worse than the one sided love I had for him. So, I continued to keep my love for him a secret.
I wish he would have done the same.
