It's been generations since the residents of the city have been able to wander freely.
The walls that are meant to protect them have slowly taken them prisoner.
It's become normal for people to be defenseless and to cower behind their technology.
The rest of the world has been effectivly cut off.
While the city's East side lives in luxury, the West side remains in poverty.

He saw how they suffered.
He wanted to fix the broken city.
He became the hope of the people.
He will take it with him if he should ever fall.

~Behind The Walls~

A/N

It is important that you understand the history of this book, and where it came from.

Over a year and a half ago, a Wattpad user named @Quawwa asked me to co-write a book with her. I had never done so with anyone before, and I did not know her before hand, but I agreed. We exchanged Discord and Gmail names, and began working on a google document together.

Her original idea was for the leader of a rebellion to get captured and go through seven 'trials' lead by a corrupt government to create the 'perfect being'. The world they live in is a dystopia. The leader looses his memories after capture, and his rebellion has to try and get him back before the trials kill him. This was the original idea. I created nearly everything else about this story, and tweaked it as we went along. I built the futuristic city that it all takes place in. If you keep reading, you'll find that the trials don't even exist anymore. I also gave the rebellion a reason to rebel. (The people are trapped)

We wrote this story in two pieces. Quawwa said she would write the trails, and I would write everything that happens outside the lab. We edited each other's work even though we'd often disagree on proper grammar. When I had finished my half, and after I wrote a bit of her part, she stopped replying to me on three different websites.

I'm guessing that there's a copy of all my hard work on some other website without credit, but I'm not particularly angry about that. I always wanted this to go on her account since it'd be her first story. I just wanted to help her get a start as a Wattpad writer.

This work that you see in here is my half of what we wrote together. I didn't take any of her 'trials'. I took the chapters I wrote and made some edits to fit my new plot. For the missing chapters, I wrote new ones with a different story for the rebel leader. Feel free to ask me about any detail if you want to know if it's 100% mine or not.

Thank you for reading this. I hope you enjoy my story.

P.S.

Yes, this was fan fiction at one point, but that changed when I decided to salvage my half of the book. I'll include a list of former characters and who they changed into in the last chapter. The former names and perceived personalities do not apply to the new original characters.
