"go!" the order was followed by the sound of a whip and the screaming of an elderly man. So unanimously the slaves started running towards the mines. When arrived the disciplinarian of the camp Genan, was awaiting them. "you've disappointed me, again. The yield of the last month is so low I am forced to cut your rations in half. And to motivate you a little bit more I've decided to stop feeding you in the evening you'll have to do with your morning meal from now on."

Silence ruled the lands on which they stood, nobody dared to speak or even react to the announcement of starvation. It was not the first and would definitely not be the last. "Well what are you waiting for, get to work. And if I see anyone who dares to rest for even a second, oh I will make sure they regret it myself!" his wicked laugh at the end was the last thing Elvi heard before entering the cave and picking up a pickax. She'd stay quiet for now, the wounds of the laches of last week still hadn't healed. She'd protected a boy of barely 12 years old. Genan hadn't been so happy with rebellion so she had received 20 laches an had had to watch how the boy received 5.

Merle who was chained next to her, tossed a kind smile in her direction. She was the one who had helped her trough the past two years. She'd been here for four and had learned that the best way to get trough the day, was to completely shut out every form of emotion. Elvi had taken her advice and as they walked into the mines she suppressed everything that made her, well her. And as she looked around she noticed that she was just one of the soulless shells waiting for release, and the only way they would get it was by death.

And then they halted, everyone took their place by the stone wall and started to mine. After a few hours she completely surrendered to the rhythm. She found herself so deep in this trance that she didn't even notice how bad Merle was doing, not until she took a deep trembling breath and fell to the ground. The sound of her fall was what awoke Elvi, she was immediately by her side. "get up an continue!" the guard snapped at her. So she snapped back: "no she needs help her heart rate is slow and she looks to pale." "Get up!" he repeated "I'll work when you aid her." Her voice was soaked I anger and her vision blurred red.

"it's not my fault she's so weak so why would I help her. Now stop caring, this girl is as good as dead. So if you don't want to receive a number of laches I would go back to work." She looked up, everything had a red shine to it. She picked up her pickax and said very slowly "no" The man stumbled back this action gave Elvi the chance to attack. She turned on her feet and threw the ax towards the guard's face. With her feet still chained she couldn't reach as far as the guard had fallen back. "you made a verry bad choice girl." He said while he took the small sword out of his belt and attacked.

At this point her instincts took over and her vision got flooded with a dark red color. She vaguely registered two heavy thing on her back before losing it completely and blacking out.

Elvi was slowly regaining consciousness as she heard laughter from all around her. She opened her eyes and they took some time to adjust to the bright light of the evening sun. but once they did, she saw them. Aal the guards from the camp surrounding her. Genan smiled and something in this smile of his was so cruel and vicious that she knew she would get punished real hard for whatever she had done. Even though she didn't remember. "bring them here." His voice cleaved through the mild evening air. four soldiers appeared carrying two stretchers. And to her shock one of the strechers bore just a few limbs, stil bleeding. The second stretcher geve her another feeling. Terror went troug her body as she saw Merle, not moving.

This girl had been the only source of good to her these past years. She'd cared for her wounds when Elvi had first arrived, she'd calmed her when the nightmares had come and she'd learned her how to survive this awful place. They had become each other's reason to keep going, both getting through the day by knowing that when the evening came they would lay in each other's arms and comfort each other with both words and actions of affection and passion. Elvi did not know whether to call it love because it was brought upon them by the terrible circumstances, but wat she did know was that she cared deeply for the girl.

And there she was, not moving but alive. She could not be dead. The four sentinels layer Merle and the few bloody limbs on the ground. As Elvi tried to get closer to her lover she realized she was chained to the mountain side. So naturally she failed to reach Merle physically. So she tried verbally; "Merle please open your eyes, you're fine, we're going to be alright." At that last word her voice broke. "not this time you're not." Elvi again tried to liberate herself an yelled out of pure rage: "filthy pig, you will pay for this." He just chuckled "no you will pay for killing one of my finest guards and disobeying his orders to help a starving weak girl."

Shock again stained her face, she'd done that? Tore that man to—shreds. "how you did it I don't know." Neither did Elvi. "...but you know what they say, an eye for an eye." It took her several seconds to realize what the man had just insinuated. But once she did tears started flowing and everything went silent in her head. The silence came from realizing, the only reason Merle was still alive was because they wanted to kill her for the fun of it. Because she knew this man didn't care as much about his guard as he claimed. So while her salted tears soaked the ground she jerked the chains one more time, but the power she had felt earlier when her vision had gone red-- was gone.

Gennan approached the still unconscious body of her friend and lover. He made sure Elvi saw the sword he slowly took out of his belt. He smiled at her while he stroke a hair out Merles face. "such a pretty face, and body to." He said as he observed her body. "almost a shame it's her lying here and not you." Clearly gesturing her slightly bigger curves. Even after 2 years of barely eating and continuously working, the curves hadn't disappeared, she'd never been one of those instantly desirable people. Having large breasts which made her look bigger than she actually was. Her small posture, hip dips and rounder belly hadn't helped either.

Elvi broke down, letting herself fall onto her knees and starting to beg Genan not to do it. He as a response only started toying with the knife, holding it way to close to Merles face. "common get it over with I'm hungry!" yelled one of the guards, the rest supported this message by cheering. And while speaking the words: "well then shall we?" he slowly slid the knife over merles throat. He did it so slow in fact that merle's eyes opened in shock and pain, pure horror went through her eyes. And then it was over. Her head fell sideways as her blood soaked her brown hair.
