It's been exactly 27 minutes since I've called my mom to pick me up from soccer practice. As I sit on the cold metal bench in my knee length mesh shorts and worn out white t-shirt I got from an 8th grade Winter Wonderland school fundraiser, I slowly breathe in and out, letting my breath evaporate into the wind. I watch as other girls get inside their parent's vehicle and drive off. Gee, it must be cool to have both of your parents caring for you. Right when I'm stuck in the middle of this thought, my mother careens carelessly right in front of me, barely missing me by a couple inches."Mom, you could've hit me!" I exclaimed as I climbed in through the back.
My mother just gave me a slight glance, and started to laugh hysterically as if what I have just said was a complete joke. What is going on? She doesn't usually act like this.
"You know... you... YOU have to be the careful one!" she exclaimed.
Ok. My mom is insane right now.
"What the heck? I was sitting right here waiting for you and you just drive almost right into me at full speed!"
She just stares at me, confused at what I say.
"I am sick and tired of you talking like that.""Like what? How am I talking-"
"Y-young lady, you are coming home with me and we will discuss your behaviors... I hate it when you do that... it makes me hate YOU."
Usually, my mother is the most sweetest and caring mother of all time. Yet, she's also very practical, which is something that I have always admired (even though it might annoy me at times when she says 'no' to some of my plans). But especially of the fact that she's a single mother raising me (the only child), while my father, who I barely even know, is off in Hollywood probably working on another hit movie. However, I don't understand why she's acting up like this today after school.
Suddenly, she steps on the gas pedal and speeds off into the busy roads filled with traffic. I could tell her hands are shaking as she's grasping onto the wheel. The car isn't moving completely straight. And when it's time to make a right turn, she continues to drive forward.
"Where are we going?" I ask with total confusion.
"Going home, stupid? What do you think!"
Then all at once, my whole body felt like it was shocked by lightning. My own mother called me a what?! Never did she call me anything this bad; especially the fact that we have kept a strong relationship together because we're all we have left.
"Don't call me stupid! At least I actually know the way home unlike you and wherever you're planning to go to." I exclaimed back.
She stopped driving all at once, while we were now on the highways where all the cars were driving over 60 miles per hour. Oh my gosh... OH MY GOSH!
"MOM WE'RE GONNA CRASH, WE'RE GONNA DIE!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU MO-"
