Two Sides

Chapter 6: The fairies gift

     "What's new month have to do with it?" I asked Sean. I put together that the power was based on time after discovery but I didn't know if that was the whole truth.
     Sean explained, " The power level you receive is based on decades. Every 10 years for us is a lifetime for a normal fairy and these fairies live inside of us for as long as we live. The difference is, as soon as they appear, they become immortal and stay the same age for the rest of the users life." Sean continues, " If you hadn't discovered yours by December 31st your time would have been reset and you would have had a much weaker fairy."
     I looked at my small while watch on my left wrist and saw the date. It was December 30th, 2019. If I had met Abbigale just a few days later, I wouldn't be nearly as strong. Something didn't add up though. " Wait, couldn't you have just told me in December that you could have this power? Then I would have gotten it before January, and I would still be just as powerful right?" I thought about it for a second. " Or would I?"
     Sean waited for me to come up with a few guesses before he explained. " If we were to tell you in December your power never would have arose. People told of this power in December, of the last year in a decade, for some reason, never get the fairies. No one really knows why, but that's just kinda how it works."
    "Okay" I started, " You told me about the significance of years, but you still haven't explained why months have significance." Sean's signals Ren to explain, as if they had rehearsed this for months, " well, " Ren started " I came first and my month was in January. When you discover your fairy in January, you have the power over rock and earth." 
     Han continued, " In February, you get power over the wind and weather. Some can even fly if they train enough, but I discovered my fairy in March" A fairy appeared on his shoulder this time. The fairy looked very different than I expected. It was a small human that wore orange clothes and was ripped to shreds. His clothes were having trouble holding down his biceps and his pecks. Han looked down, kind of disappointed. " He has the ability to physically inhance your abilities, making me super strong and it even gives me better reflexes. I've heard some can even turn into some sort of hulk. " He looks even more disappointed now.
     "What's wrong with that?" I asked him. He looks up slowly and simultaneously Han, Ren, and Sean said, " He's a dude." Sean and Ren both burst out laughing and Han smiles. It's not THAT big of a deal, it's just, Sean, Ren, and you now all have females and I just have this buff dude that chills in my head. I thought to myself for a second. So far, these powers have been very similar to their personality. Ren was always stubborn as a rock, and Han did seem to have more muscle then brain.
     Next was Sean, " And as for me, mine was discovered in April, the month of ice!" His fairy reappeared and I could see the similarities. Her blue hair and her pale blue skin made it pretty obvious if you thought about it... Actually, you might also think it could be water. His element made sense as well. He's rock solid on the outside, very stiff and, but when you break inside you find a liquid that!'s much more flexible and patient.
     He continues " May is the month of fire, June, month of water, July, month of poison, October, month of plants, September, month of Darkness, November, month of the light, and finally, your month. December, the month of brain power.
