BECKY POV :

I knew exactly what I was doing, but I have come too far to stop.

The rain has stopped again. It was like the weather was playing along with us. Testing us. I imagine it probably asking:

Just how far are you going to play this absurd game? Obviously, neither of you is giving in.

Sonya might have tried to, but who says she could do that? She started this, and I was going to finish it.

She was standing up by the other side of the bed, gawking at me. Arms folded, eyebrows harshly knitted. In short, typically her "unhappy" attire.

She snaps. " Are you kidding with me now ?"

-" Take it or leave it"

I shrug. She looks taken aback, and I repress a smirk. In a blink of an eye, her expression changes.

-" I'll take it", and I almost flinch.

Almost

Her deep olive eyes were shining magnificently under the sunlight, and I clear my throat.

-" Are you confident? You will not look my way ever again after the deadline?"

As soon as that scary word left my mouth, my heart almost jumped out of my chest.

I wonder if it showed.

Her pretty lips twitch in a smile that did nothing but cool the fire blazing inside me.

- "Never"

I breathe out, and she destroys the contact by walking toward the bathroom.

-" How about we share a shower?"

One of my mom's favorite lines was something along the lines of: " Between two people in love, the one who loves their partner slightly more is always the weakest".

I never knew that a shower was all it took for mine to break.

We couldn't help it.

As thunderstorm besieged the once clear sky, Sonya shocked me out of my endless thoughts when she glided her body on mine, vaporizing the invisible wall of conflicting emotions like smoke into the air. I was craving it, I wanted her, but something didn't feel right.

I still didn't know the answer to the question I was too scared to ask.

Moments later, I leave her sleeping soundly, and I head towards the kitchen. The sun has set, and the raging waves seemed to have calmed down again. All was back to its place-

Almost.

Outside the glassy window, my gaze strays to the dim blue horizon, when I spot a familiar back. I try to find a hiding spot to get a better view of the scene before me, and I nearly fall on my back when I recognize the face of an old man, gently stretching his hand, taking in another's.

A hand I knew too well.

I make a muffled yelp when I fall in the arms of someone, she attempted to look at what I was watching, but I pull myself back up before she uttered a word.  She looked confused, but I couldn't appease her curiousness. It was a mystery how she did it every time; Once again, she was there, witnessing me at one of my most vulnerable moments.
