Sonya POV:It was the first time.
Becky Jones has always been a reflection of her world; from the way,8 years ago, she treated school as if it was her playground, to the way she treated me, the girl at the bottom of the social ladder.
It took 8 years, and whether it was due to the shock or gradual, this was the first time where she has ripped off that disguise. It was as if she was standing there, raw and naked, seeming nothing but a girl who wanted the truth.
And it scared the hell out of me.
I rise from the mattress, and I clear my throat.
-" Why did you break up with me ?"
Her cheeks were red, probably hot at the touch. Then, after a couple of more moments of excruciating gazes, she takes a deep breath out.
-" Never mind. You can leave in the morning. "
-" I'll talk"
My eyes squeeze shut and my chest rises with each breath I take.
-" Do you think anything will change after that ?"
A lethal silence was weighting on the room, depleting me of time, and of patience, ripping me off my chance to lay all that was inside me out in the open.
-" I know that-"
It was past midnight, and the early morning breeze was creeping inside the room.
-" I know that I want you back"
-" Me too "
[TIME SKIP]
Her hand was wrapped around my shoulder, where I rested my head, nuzzling into her scent, sweet musk.
-" My dad was right "
Our fingers intertwined together, she kisses the back of my hand.
-" I don't listen to people around me"
I look up at her, and I hold her face into mine, locking our eyes, I was missing this, her stare, her hazel deep eyes, her soft face, her warmth, and mornings together.
I somehow thought I could leave all of it behind.
I pull her close. Slowly, cautiously. As if we were walking on thin ice; our hands and bodies swayed against each other, dancing to the music of our hearts. Our lips, devoted to one another.
My heart was throbbing inside. Euphoric. Chirping inside its cage-like a singing bird, rattling its wings, celebrating this moment. She bites my lip, and she tugs me into her, breathing into it, heating us. Blood pumps into me as I trail kisses down her chin. I glue our foreheads together, and I rub her cheeks.
She whimpers, and with her hands marked with white knuckles, she pulls away.
-"What is wrong?" My voice reverberates through the slim air between us,
Shaky.
-"We can't...Not yet"
Defeated, and exhausted, my shoulders drop.
Nevertheless, I smile. " I can wait"
The morning sun rises in its glory, and that could only mean one thing.
As I dragged my feet outside in the chilly morning breeze, my shoulders down as if I was carrying all the weight of the world behind my back, I couldn't help but rewind what happened last night in my mind.
Leaving felt brutal. Cruel. To myself, and her.
Moments later, what felt like hours of endless mind wandering, I arrive home. To my sudden surprise, I get a "wake-up" slap on my back. My mom was angry, fuming, glaring at me, with more than just her motherly frown, when she breaks into tears.
-"I thought I lost you!" she stumbles between her cries.
Tara was frozen on the stairway, staring at me blankly, her face pale, her eyes lost.
-"Where were you? How could you disappear like that?!"
My mother has never looked like she has aged. In fact, she has always done her best to look well for us; but right now, she was the opposite of everything she has pretended to be; Frail, Old, tired, hurt.
-"I'm sorry"
When it all dies down, I end up slipping inside the hot shower. The water steam soothes me a bit but as soon as the droplets leave my body to the ground, I was back to feeling cold again, alone in my agony. My mind couldn't stop thinking about her, and about the kiss, so I touch my lips, and I close my eyes, remembering it, summoning the sparks it sent through me. Then, I realize,
I was being ridiculous.
So I crumble on my bed with a sigh, savoring my muscles finally finding a bit of relief. Just when my eyes begin getting drowsy, I hear knocking on the door.
-"Can I come in?"
- "You're already in Tara".
The mattress sinks deeper as Amanda sits in. She hasn't said anything yet, but the air around her suggested she had a lot on her mind, which was weird, and new, given how she was the one who had the least on her mind.
But I've had enough tension for one day. "What is up"
She clears her throat. "I got a job at JONES"
My eyes crack open, and I wince when I try to get up with my heavy muscles.
My head twists to her side, facing her. "What"
-"It just ended up that way. I didn't think I'd actually make it"
She carries on. "You were with Becky last night weren't you?"
I go back to facing the ceiling,
I mumble."I'm grounded"
-"You're what?"
-"Becky, that petty a**hole, grounded me!"
***
I fell asleep. It was a Monday, and even though I still had a lot of articles and reports awaiting me, I called in for an emergency break for the day.
Honestly, it was hard for me to fall asleep, especially after that conversation she -who should not be named- and I had last night. If "never" meant for one day, I could beat her over and over again!
But never was an insanely long time!
KNOCK KNOCK
My room was pitch dark as if I was isolating myself for the rest of my life, and maybe now, that was what I needed. I pull the blanket over me a bit more.
-"I'm sleeping!" I groan, loudly for the other side to hear.
The voice yells just as loudly. "You have a visitor!"
Is this prison?
I scream back. "I don't get visitors!"
-"Today you did! Come out or I'll make you!"
Shuddering at the thought of being awakened traditionally by getting rained on with a bucket of icy water and wetting my newly bought lingerie, I oblige.
In defeat.
