"Hi Mia" Jake waved to Mia. She smiled back. They had been friends since they were five, and now they were ten. She met him walking to school on the first day, at the corner of Prince St. and Walnut Ave. Now every day she waited for him, and he would wait for her. From there they would walk to the school, Sherbert Elementary, and would sit together at lunch. She would miss him when they weren't together. She couldn't help but smile and hug him when he ran down the street. They always would greet each other with a hug. Now she embraced him with the largest hug, for this summer she had visited family in Florida and she hadn't even heard his voice. She felt his face turn hot, and he was so shocked he fell over backwards. She loosened her grip and looked him in the eyes.

He noticed she thought he was hurt.

"I'm fine." He said, surprised. Mia crawled off and a tear fell from her eye. More fell, so Jake stood up and dried her eyes. He knew what she would say, if she could talk. If only she wasn't mute. She pulled away and grabbed his hand. He started to walk with her down the road, and through the trees. He could have helped her, saved her from them, and then she would speek, buy she couldn't, and he didn't, and he regretted it so much. Years ago when the witch's were at war, Mia was attacked by two. He could have saved her, but he just watched, and she never spoke again. She didn't remember, but he could have saved her. He thought about it every day, cried over it. His own kind did this. He told them to come, for safety from the war, but it was his mistake. That school day dragged on longer than the rest.
