The day started off just as ordinary as any other day. So how could we possibly know the world was about to end?
The day the world ended was a warm and sunny monday and I was at my highschool in Brackenfell, minding my own business as I casually listened and learned about my history studies with the rest of my classmates.
And that's when it happened.
I gradually noticed that the parents started to pull up to the school in their cars, even though it was only the 5th period of the day. They surrounding the security guard's hut with stressed out body languages and muffled voices. It was strange and my gut instantly knew that something was wrong. My teacher and the rest of the students in my class began to acknowledge the ruccas and lots of worry stirred in their eyes.
I heard talk of people on the news going crazy this morning, but thought nothing of it as it was in Egypt which is higher up on the continent of Africa and I'm all the way at the bottom of the continent in Cape Town. The news said there were adults in Egypt who went searching for antiques and they found a really old jar full of ash that nobody knew about and decided to take it back to their science facility based in that area to analyze it, but they didn't think of wearing masks when they decided to open it -for 'standard' precautionary measures- and apparently what was inside it made them deteriorate and decompose into nothing but a deformed and aggressive skeleton with shreds of skin attached to their body. The headline called them Shredders and as a typical end-of-world virus goes, no one knew how the virus could cured. But a teen like me never worries herself about things like this.
I have a secret to tell you. I have been planning for this moment all my life and have read up on many different monsters true or fake, the bad news... I have never read up on this type of monster. The good news is that I always keep my mechanically enhanced gadgets in my locker on the ground floor and even more bad news is that I was on the second floor on the opposite side of the school from where my locker was situated.
But as I have said already, this all happened in egypt, so I found it a bit strange that the parents were practically kicking down the schools gate. But then I saw it. Down the road from where our parents were standing was a black cloud of dust that hovered in one place. But the second that our parents acknowledged its presence and started to panick, it began to take the shape of a white thin figure with bits of flesh dangling from its face.
Our parents weren't here to get us out. They were screaming to get in.
The guard instantly opened up the gate and ran towards the entrance to Brackenfell Highschool as fast as he could, but the Shredder was too fast and surpassed all the other adults to get to him. The Shredder pounded onto the guard; toppled him over and took a big chunk out of his back with those razor sharp talons for teeth it possessed. The adults stopped in their tracks as they watched the original Shredder stand up with it's new dead buddy on its side. The teens in my class knew better than to scream, or else it would come for us.
The parents began to run the other way and the Shredder and its budy chased after its 3-star meal. Soon my school would be over run with these deadoes,
And I wasnt about to let that happen.
I ran out the classroom as my teacher quietly protested and ran past a class that had one of my guy friends, Damian in it. He ran out after me, and we stopped in our tracks and he asked "What's the plan here, captain??"
"Get the other and meet me at the back gate of the school. Its chow time." I replied.
He nodded in understanding and ran off in the opposite direction in order to get the rest of our crew together and I continued my pursuit to my locker to get our gear. After a few minutes we met up at the back gate. It was Damian, Gerhard, Zandre, Nell, Tammy, Nicole, Domonique, Chloe, Danielle and I. All 10 of us in one place made for a pretty kickass group that would wipe every single one of the Shredders out with ease.
But it didnt end that way.
We narrowly escaped with our lives that day and soon split apart from each other thinking each of us can do better on our own. I still think of them and hope they are still alive, but since then haven't kept in contact, mainly because there were no more phone towers still standing.
It's been 5 years since the incident and no one has found a way to end it. I just hope someone does soon.
Damian and Gerhard were the only ones that stuck with me over the last couple days and we have alot of fun staying up on the roof of canal walk and shooting down deadoes. And we have figured out how the movie station works so we can play anything in 3D IMAX, except we have to make sure nothing is in the cinema with us and make sure to lock all the doors. Leading into the cinema
The only downside is that the food goes off and everything is powered by electricity and there is no power in the end of the world and gas is also quite scarce. So we make do with bugs and chocolate and Macdonald burgers, because those never go off.
We also found an ice cream machine that runs off batteries, so that's always a plus and to make it even better there is a Mr Price Home with a whole bunch of beds too. So it's always a comfy sleep in the apocalypse. We also found a weapons store on our first night here and used different guns to kill the Deadoes that were there the night we moved in, just to test which one was the best gun for us. I also have swords and assassin blades, Damian has two handguns and long knives and Gerhard has all the big guns and hand grenades for the fun of it. We gave each other code names to tell to other teenage survivors when we find any, that is. Mine is Captain, Gerhard is Gunman and Damian is Deadman, because he always gets himself into stupid situations that I'm surprised he isnt dead yet.
But over all the end of the world isn't that bad for us.
But it's also far from over.A/N
I hope you liked the beginning of my new novel. Please comment what you think and please leave a vote and a follow. Would be much appreciated.Love
