The queen slid through the hidden passage to meet with her imprisoned sibling, wanting to see him one last time before his execution. She peeked around the corner, knowing well the guards were well off their shifts. After making sure no one was in sight she lifted her dress and ran across the hall to her brothers chambers. He looked mischievous as usual, somehow being prepared for execution didn't do anything to his appearance. The queen smiled at her brother sadly and weakly, they both hoped this wasn't a final goodbye. "Danielle, my dear sister." he smiles at the girl across from him. Their worlds separated by a simple set of bars.
"Hello little brother!" Danielle managed to put a bit of excitement into her voice and continued, "I've been talking with the council, trying to get you pardoned and such. It doesn't help that your execution is planned for tomorrow..but i'd say it's going quite well."
"Thank you for trying, Danielle, but I feel as if it won't work." Her brother sighed, knowing his fate would be a hanging. Paying for his frowned upon crimes.
"Derek don't say that! It's my fault you're in this terrible mess, I'm just trying to get you out of it." Danielle scolds her brother, really believing she can get him out of this.
Derek grabs his sister's hand through the bars. "Danielle please, this is not your fault. It's Mothers. What happened a month ago truly was her fault, not yours nor mine."
Danielle shakes her head and begins giving her brother updates on the kingdom. She talks of simple stuff, like the bakers sales rising, the castles new features, and little things. The only big thing happening in this kingdom was the boy she was talking to's hanging, which wasn't a subject either of them wanted to discuss. Once the clock strikes midnight they part separate ways. Danielle promises Derek it will be okay, and they give the other what they hope are not their final words to each other. Both the siblings shed a few tears. Derek's tears for Danielle who will have to rule the kingdom alone along with managing the castle. Danielle's tears are for her brother, as he will be hung tomorrow, hung for a crime he didn't even commit.
Danielle wakes up in her glamorous canopy bed the next day, quickly getting ready in a simple yellow dress, white heels, and a beautiful white crown. She puts on some easy makeup, wanting to get to the conference room quickly, as her brother's life is on the line. She prepared what she would say and to whom she would say it. Imagining the councils faces she repeated her lines over and over again. Not once did she mess up, although she did get a bit teary eyed at some parts. As she knows she could have prevented the whole thing had she just spoken the truth, but alas, she had let Derek do the talking. Poor Derek, he was being hung at only seventeen. Danielle wiped her face free of tears and walked down to the conference room elegantly, full of guilt.
As she steps into the conference room she realizes how upsettingly early she is. Annoyed by her awful inability to tell time correctly, she begins to get lost in a thoughtspace she has tried to get rid of, she begins to regret everything up to this moment. Had she just spoken up her brother would not be getting prepped for a hanging, instead he'd be helping rule the precious kingdom. Lost in her own thoughts she doesn't seem to notice when a council official walks into the room.
"Queen Danielle, what brings you here so early?" Mr. Horizon, a council official questioned.
Danielle jerked her head up in surprise, too deep in thought. "Oh, Mr. Horizon. I was just nervous, that's really all."
Mr. Horizon nodded in agreement. "That's understandable my queen, it is a very big meeting we are holding today."
Danielle opens her mouth to respond but is interrupted by the rest of the council entering the room and taking their assigned spots. Danielle quickly fixes her crown and folds her hands on the table, nervous as hell. She tries to keep a bright smile as all twelve eyes turn to her. Avoiding each of their gazes she begins to speak.
"I expect you all know why we are here today, and the importance of this meeting, as it will determine Derek Hendrix's punishment for murder of the queen, Lisa Hendrix. Derek Hendrix is a seventeen year old boy, his only alive family member being Danielle Hendrix. Derek Hendrix claimed to have murdered Lisa Hendrix because she threatened to hurt Danielle Hendrix while drunk. Today we vote to see if Derek will face the ropes, or face the dungeons for ten years." Danielles voice quivered while she said these words, because she knew the truth. She could only pray her brother won't face the same ways as many before him."It is now time to vote on Derek Hendrix's fate." She stated, her smile fading. "All in agreement to hang him, please raise your hand."
