I stir at the feel of his fingertips climbing my spine. His hands are the perfect balance of soft and calloused, and the texture of his palm cupping my neck leaves my back curving in response, expecting pleasure to rush through me as always when Nick touches me.
He tenderly brushes his lips at the corner of my jaw underneath my ear, his deep tone like an unspoken promise of forever. "Good morning, sweetheart."
Excitement bubbles inside me while a slow smile crosses my face. When I accepted my events planning job at the Lansing Center, it was done so on the provision that I would need three weeks off for our wedding and honeymoon. Today is my last day.
I trace a gentle circle over his stubble as he grazes his hand over my hip. "Morning, my love," I rasp out. He moves in tighter, his body warm and strong, and I hum in appreciation. "What are you doing today?"
"Whatever errands you need. Otherwise, I'm going to take my time and start packing for us."
For the past two weeks, Nicholas wrapped up all of the business he could and took on nothing new, so he could be off for an entire month.
His vacation started last week, and we leave tomorrow. We. Leave. Tomorrow.
The downy blanket rustles as I flip over, finding Nick with his head propped up by his elbow, and his blue eyes dancing. I simper, and wrap my arm around his waist, pressing my face into his warm neck.
He weaves fingers into the back of my hair. "What?"
I lean back, and brush stands of fallen hair from his eyes. "Two days until I'm your wife."
Nick flickers his gaze over me and leans to kiss my forehead. "No take-backs," he murmurs, leaving his mouth there.
"K," I say. "You either."
His chest vibrates as we laugh together. "Can I make you breakfast?"
The cat hops onto the bed and makes her way over, circling behind Nick to sniff his head, startling when he shifts. "Hi, honey."
Moira's eyes grow large before she zooms from the room, her feet scampering on the vinyl hallway.
I snort before answering, finding his cute smile widening when he turns back. "Well, thank you, but I am stopping for bagels for everybody on my last day," I say, cuddling into him more. "Except I don't want to get up or leave you."
"One more day," he says, then kisses my nose, minty breath washing over my face. "Then you're all mine for weeks."
Warmth spreads from my stomach to my extremities, and I close my eyes, biting my lip. "K."
Nick shifts, sliding lower on my body. "Sunshine time, please."

"Scratches look a lot better," Alexandria says, twisting her mouth as we begin packing up after a staff meeting. She hooks hair behind her ear, sweeping the rest over her shoulder before extending a folder to me.
