Once Caleb heard his aunt's TV turn off, he left and walked to Sabrina's. He opened the window and climbed in. He closed and locked the window then got undressed and curled up behind Sabrina, pulling her close. She rolled over and smiled "Papi, what are you doing here? It's late." Caleb brushed her hair out of her face "Shhh, Mi vida. I just didn't want you alone. Need to take care of my 2 loves. Just go back to sleep. You need rest, baby's gonna take a lot of your energy." Sabrina rested her head on Caleb's chest.
"Papi, thank you for taking care of me. I know you love us very much and our baby is gonna be so lucky." Caleb kissed Sabrina's forehead "Of course, love. I've seen my mom be pregnant a few times, so I know how sick you'll be. Just relax." Sabrina began to play with the angel wing pendant around Caleb's neck and fell asleep. Caleb ran his fingers through her ponytail and dozed off to South Park playing on the TV.
He woke up to Sabrina's sister kneeling next to the bed waking her up "Sabrina, how are you feeling?" Sabrina smiled "I'm ok, Lydia. How was work?" "Eh, so so. Hi Caleb." Caleb looked up "Hey, Lydia." Lydia smiled "I can make breakfast if you want." Caleb sat up "Don't worry about it. I can get us food, I know you worked a lot last night." Lydia giggled "Damn sis, I need a man like him. I'm off tonight, so I'll be asleep most of the day. Please keep it down, ok?" They both agreed and Lydia went to her room.
Caleb kissed Sabrina "We could go to the clinic today if you want. I can work on Chris's list this afternoon." Sabrina smiled "Really? What if they do an ultrasound? Oh my God!" Caleb chuckled "That would be awesome. But I'm not sure if you're far along enough." They got dressed and headed out towards the clinic. Sabrina stopped in front of the corner store near their school and started to throw up in the trash can.
Caleb held her hair and helped her to the bench on the sidewalk. "Here, I'll go get you a drink. What do you want?" Sabrina looked up at him "Just a water is fine, Papi. Thank you." Caleb went into the store and grabbed 2 bottles of water and some wet wipes. "Hey, Roger. You got hair ties?" Roger, the store owner looked at him "Lil man, your braids ain't long enough for that. "
Caleb laughed "Nah, for my girl. She broke her last one." Roger chuckled "I got a rubber band. Here, let me get you taken care of." Caleb paid for the waters and the wipes "Can I have a couple plastic bags?" Roger looked outside "The girl with her face in the trash yours?" Caleb turned around "Yea, food poisoning." Roger chuckled "Right right, food poisoning. Here."
Caleb ran out of the store and pulled her hair up with the rubber band. He handed her a water and a plastic bag. "There, in case there isn't a trash can around." The two finally made it to the clinic and they walked to the window "Can I help you?" The woman with bright pink hair behind the desk asked. "Uh, yea. I'm pregnant. I need to be seen." The woman raised an eyebrow "Confirmed?" "Huh?" The woman rolled her eyes "Did you already take a test?" Sabrina nodded "Yea, yesterday." "Ok, when was your last period, hun?"
Sabrina looked at Caleb, then back at the woman "April." The woman looked down at the calendar on the desk. "So, 2 months. Ok, fill this out and someone will call you back. Father?" Sabrina smiled "Yea, he's the father." Sabrina and Caleb sat down while Sabrina filled out the paperwork. Caleb smiled and looked at Sabrina's belly, which he could tell was growing. It was crazy she had a tummy already, he never noticed any girl he knew showing that early. The door opened and a nurse came out. "Sabrina Caberra?"
Sabrina and Caleb stood up and followed the nurse back "Scale, please." Sabrina stepped on the scale and the nurse adjusted the weights "135 pounds. First pregnancy?" Sabrina nodded excitedly. The nurse smiled "You know what you weighed last time you saw a doctor?" Sabrina stood there trying to remember "I think I was 120 in March." The nurse jotted some notes down and took them to a room where she went over all the paperwork Sabrina filled out.
"Ok, paternal grandfather is blank." Caleb looked up "I haven't seen my father since I was 2, ma'am." The nurse nodded "Last period was April, and you took a test yesterday?" Sabrina nodded "They aren't always on time, so I wasn't sure at first." The nurse smiled "That's fine. The doctor should be in soon."
Sabrina looked at Caleb as he took her hand "You already have a little bump." Sabrina giggled "I've gained 15 pounds since March, so I mean it makes sense." The doctor came in the room and went over the paperwork again, just as the nurse did. "Ok, based on your last period I do want to do an ultrasound. Just to make sure the baby is doing ok. So, follow me and someone will get you soon." They were led down a dim hallway to another waiting area.
A young woman, who was pregnant herself peeked her head out as Sabrina was falling asleep with her head on Caleb's shoulder. "Come on back, we'll make this quick." Sabrina laid on the table and the tech turned the machine on "You mind tucking your shirt under your bra? I don't want to get any gel on it. By the way, this gel is probably cold, I'm sorry."
Caleb took her hand as the tech squirted the cold blue gel on her belly and began to move the wand around. The tech began clicking buttons on the machine. "Hear that?" Caleb and Sabrina looked at each other. Caleb smiled "Mhm. Heartbeat, right?" The tech giggled "Smart kid. Yep. And right here is the baby." Caleb had heard it once before, his mom was in the ER and Derek was out getting drunk somewhere, so Jamal and Caleb sat at the hospital with her.
Sabrina and Caleb watched the screen as the tech zoomed in and pointed to different parts of the baby's body. "You're about 10 weeks. Which means you would be due in January. The doctor can give you an exact date. I'll have her come back here, I'm going to grab the print outs." The tech wiped the gel off and left the room. Sabrina started crying "It's so tiny!" She put her hand on her belly and Caleb placed his hand over hers. "January, New Year's baby." Sabrina laughed "Yea, good start to the New Year, huh?"
The tech returned with the pictures and the doctor followed. "Ok, so based on your last period, your due date is January 12. I want to see you in a month, so the lady at the desk can schedule you. Do you have any questions?" Sabrina looked down "Not at the moment". Caleb looked at the doctor "I have one. Can we do anything for her being sick?" The doctor smiled "Hmm, most teen boys get dragged here and don't care. Peppermint and sour candies work well, and make sure she stays hydrated and eats something, even if it's just crackers."
