{ Ayla POV}
For the rest of the week I staid in bed,
The fight had in me the other nigh had completely drained from me.
" you going to get out of bed today?"
Azriel asked calmly,
" no" I breathed,
" could you at least let use clean your back?" He gently said, over the week I hadn't let anyone near me and definitely not my back.
" there's no need my back was cleaned weeks ago." I said quickly not wanting to speak anymore,
" I mean get rid of your stumps, so they don't get in the way."
I shot up at that, why would he say that? He new what my wings meant to me, seeing the look on my face he carried on, " they will throw you of balance."
I just lai back down and turned over, showing that I give up.
Once I would of fort back but I had no fight left. I heard Az get up and leave.
{ Azriel POV}
I got up and left after speaking to Ayla about her wings, she hadn't fort back like I except her to, she just laid back down and turn over showing that she had given up.
I walked to the living room where I knew Feyre would be, " she said she'll have he stumps removed." I said to no one in particular.
I turned around and walked back to the room, ruffling of clothes told me that someone had followed me, I held the door open as Feyre walked in.
She walked over and sat on the end of the bed, she started to speak softly to Ayla," I'm going to remove your stumps, not by cutting theme off but I will fold them back into your body, this is going to hurt a lot."While speaking Ayla had looked over her shoulder at Feyre, she just gave a small nod before turning her pine green eyes to me, they were full of an emotion I could not read.
{ Ayla POV}
I turned my face away from Az and put my head on my arms, that I had crossed on my pillow.
My body tensed when Feyre laid her hands on my back,
Agonising pain went through my body in waves, i would not scream as pain carried on flowing through my body, I would not react to the pain, I would not start now not after hundred years of going through this pain, I would no break.
After what felt like hours of pain, Feyre announced, " I've finished for today, I'll get rid of the scars tomorrow."
" no, leave theme." I managed to get out, she just stud and nodded, understanding flashed through her eyes.
" I'll leave you to rest" Az mumbled by the door.
Once they had finally left,was when I let a single tear roll down my cheek.
I don't know when I fell asleep but I was woken by glass shattering in a room near mine, then a scream echoed the hall.
{Azriel POV}
I shot up at the sound of breaking glass and screaming coming from Elian and Lucien's bedroom.
I reached their bedroom, to find that the door was already open and Rhys and Cass standing with blades in their hands ready to pounce on the creature that had shadows curling around it, inches away from ripping out Lucien's throat.
Someone who I hadn't noticed enter the room let out a wimpier ,it was Ayla, she had silent tears moving down her face.
At the sound, the shadow creature looked up from were it stud, the shadows curled back to reveal a black wolf. It ran to Ayla and jumped up her, it started to lick her,
" Kaige, kaige get of me" she said while trying push the creature off.
{Ayla POV}
Kaige was licking my face frantically, I fell backwards and winced at the pain in my back.
Sensing my pain Kaige got of me.Everyone wore a confused expression other the Amren.
It was Rhysand who spoke first,
" why the hell do you have a giant wolf licking your face?"
Remembering that we were surrounded by people, Kaige spun around bearing is teeth at everybody, shadows once again started to curl out from him.
I stroked his fur, calming him down,
" Kaige, is a shadow wolf, I've had him since he was a Pup, Amren gave me him for my fifth birthday." I said still stroking the wolf, he had calmed down now knowing that no one was a threat, Kaige had now returned to the soft young wolf I new him as.
Kaige spotted Amren and went straight for her and circled her wagging his tail,
Amren chuckled patting the wolf's head.
{Azriel POV}
Coldren boil me, of course Ayla had a shadow wolf as a pet.
" you didn't have him when I new you."
I voiced my thoughts out loud,
" that's because he was staying in winter court with my cousin, I weren't sure if I was allowed him in velaris, then i found out I could after speaking to Az, so that was why I was on my way to winter court when I was taken."
" but if you haven't seen him in over a hundred years, then why did he attack Lucien?"Rhys spoke this time.
" because Kaige is a shadow wolf and I'm a shadow singer"
" that still doesn't answer the question." Rhys continued.
A sigh came from Amren, " because Ayla is a shadow singer and Kaige is a shadow wolf, and because they've been together since he was a pup, it means that their shadows are intertwined."
Realising they were talking about him Kaige, who was now sitting next to Aylas feet,waged his tale and barked.
I turned to Lucien, " what did you do?"
Guilt covered is eyes, he opened his mouth to answer but was interrupted by Ayla, " nothing, it doesn't matter."
With that she turned around and walked out the door,leaning on Kaige for support.
{ Ayla POV}
I slept easier that night, with Kaige by my side, it felt like a hole in my chest had closed.
