Month 1:
Lilly walked into the bathroom, just in time to see me wiping up my tears.
“Kayla!” Lilly shrieked, running towards me. “Are you ok? Who hurt you? Did you and Logan get in a fight?” Lilly raddled off tons of questions. Instead of lying, I decided to tell Lilly the truth, something I’d been trying to do for several weeks now.
“Lilly,” I started trying to be strong, “I missed my period… twice. I-I-I think I’m p-pregnant!” Lilly had a look of shock on her face. For once my ever so bubbly best friend was speechless.
“Did you take a test?” She asked finally.
“No, and I don’t want to. Not yet at least.” I managed.
“Kayla, you need to take a test, you need to know if you and Logan are going to have a baby. You have only had sex with Logan… right?”
“Yeah,” I said, not sure which question I was really answering.
Lilly walked me back to calculus, making me promise to meet her after school at her house. The rest of school was a drag and I couldn’t focus at all. When Mr. Blank as me a question he had to repeat it twice before I even heard it. As soon as the 3:00 o’clock bell rang, I was gone.
I met Lilly at her house, as planned, at 3:25. She was sitting in her bathroom holding a box, trying to read the directions when I walked in.
“Hey.”
“Hey! To be honest, I thought you were going to bail, and I’d have to go to your house instead.”
She explained how to take the test before leaving me alone in the bathroom, still so unsure if I actually wanted to go through with the test. Finally I decided that I had to. Lilly was right, I needed to know. I peed on the stick before going to get Lilly, so we could see the results together. Exactly 2 minutes later, the results popped up. Two pink lines, I was pregnant.
I began to sob immediately. Logan and I had made sure to use condoms! How could this be happening? We’d really only done it twice, and we’d used condoms for crying out loud.
“Kayla… you need to tell Logan, and your parents as soon as possible.”
“Right ok, sure.” Yet I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to do those two things.
