Ah New York City. The Big Apple. City That Never Sleeps. Am I missing any other titles?

I'm so glad I can finally be here. I've always wanted to live here because I came here quite a few times as a child and it had always felt like home. Even though I'm still looking for one at the moment.... I've been working at a café for two weeks now and I usually sleep here, the manager, a sweet old woman named Linda, she lets me sleep here and makes sure I'm all cozy. She's offered me to stay at her home a few times but I just had not wanted to be a burden.

It was 8 in the evening and tonight, Linda invited me to help around her house. I finished cleaning the tables, got my coat on and locked the doors.
"Are the doors locked, sweetie?" Linda asked. I turned to face her and nodded. She was a bit shorter than me. Maybe 4'11. Yea I know that meant I was pretty short too. I'm around 5'1. Linda had green eyes, wrinkly pale skin and grey hair; that you can tell was black at a time. She was really a beautiful elderly woman in my eyes.
"Alright then, are you ready?" She asked.
I nodded once again, and she began to walk. In the city, everything is pretty much walking distance.

After walking a couple blocks and twists and turns, we stopped amongst a brick building that looked rather old. Basically almost every building in New York.
Linda walked up and pressed a button.
"Hello?" A voice said. Sounded like a child no older than 12.
"Tommy? Honey let us in," Linda replied
"Us? Who's with you, grandma?"
"Just a young lady to help around the house,"
"Oh okay!"
And immediately after he hung up, the door buzzed and we were able to enter the building. The inside of the building smelt like nail polish almost. But not in a bad way. Linda continued to lead the way to the elevator, once it opened up, we walked inside.
"Which floor, Linda?" I asked.
"Oh the 3rd one dear," she replied.
I pressed the button that of course had a "3" on it then we stood there waiting to land on the floor which happened within seconds.

We exited the elevator and turned to the right and walked down a short hall with a door at one end and one at the other end. Linda knocked on the door that said "3B" and within a few seconds a young boy around the same height as Linda answered the door. He had green eyes, light brown hair, freckles along the bridge of his nose and dimples. He was the most adorable thing ever!!
"Who's this?" He asked.
"Don't be rude, Tommy! Let us in" she replied hitting him on the head as she walked in. He rubbed the back of his hand and just stared at me like I was an alien of some sort.
"I'm Jane," I said with a smile and reaching my hand out for him to shake. He looked at me then my hand and then back at me.
Then he finally took it to shake. "Tommy."
He released for the handshake and gestured me to come inside, and I immediately did that.
The apartment had a salmon colored wallpaper, and the furniture was all white. It's was so cute and cozy. I may be in love with this place. What did I have to clean exactly?
"I'm Linda?" I asked hoping for her to pop out of nowhere.
"Yes?" She shouted from another room.
I followed her voice, she sounded like she was over on the other side of the apartment where a bedroom could be.
"What am I suppose to-" I was cut off by the sight and smell of the bedroom. It smelled like a garbage full of old pizza and burgers. There were some flies flying around, clothes piled up everywhere, I couldn't see a bed or anything.
"So I'm guessing I'm cleaning this room?" I said cluelessly.
"Yes dear, is that alright?" She asks in her sweet time. Gosh how I loved this old women and I've only known her for a couple weeks.
"Tommy and I will go out grocery shopping for a couple hours, so take your time dear" she said grabbing her bag and waving me goodbye. I waved goodbye when she walked out of the room. Once I heard the door close, I waited a couple seconds to see if they were officially gone, then I finally let out a sigh.
"This is gonna take a long time," I said scanning the room deciding on what I should clean first. I went to the kitchen real quick to look for a mop, broom, windex, paper towels, etc. I walked back inside the room.
"Alright," I said putting on cleaning gloves,
"Let's do this,"
