Evelyn stood, staring at the Hogwarts Express. Now fifteen, she could not believe that this was it. She was actually going to Hogwarts.

"Are you sure about this?" Severus looked rather uncomfortable as he shifted his luggage on the platform, loading it into the carriage. "You don't have to."

"I can't stay at home alone anymore, Sev," Eve caught her voice from trembling as she clenched her fists tightly. "You know that."

Severus gave a stiff nod before climbing up the steps and striding off towards the end of the train.

"Don't mind him," Lily gave her hand a squeeze from where she stood beside her. "He's just nervous."

"Embarrassed of me, more like it," Evelyn snapped, ignoring the prick of tears in her eyes as she pulled on the strap of her trunk. "Maybe I should just go."

"No!" Lily grabbed her shoulders. "I have been waiting for you to come to Hogwarts for four years." She steered the girl onto the train, pushing her gently up the steps. "There's no backing out now."

Evelyn bit her lip, catching a glimpse of her reflection in a train window. Her deep red hair was secured back into a bun, tightly fastened at the nape of her neck. Her robes were simple and black, with a collar that buttoned all the way up to her throat. A pair of dark eyes stared back at her, slightly frightened.

With a shake of her head, Evelyn shook her arms, trying to stop the shivers racing up her skin. Following Lily, she ignored the curious looks from a few students, who were clearly confused about the older newcomer. Ducking into the nearest compartment, Evelyn was thankful to find it unoccupied and collapsed on the seat with a sigh.

"You alright?" Lily looked concerned, but her eyes were distracted as she scanned the corridor for her Gryffindor friends.

Evelyn flinched as a high-pitched squeal echoed from down the corridor. "Let me guess, that's Marlene."

Lily cringed. "Sorry, she's a bit..."

"Go," Evelyn nodded to the door with a smile. "Serious, Lils. I bet you're anxious to see them." She paused, looking through the window at the platform below, where the train was already beginning to pull away. "And I could use some time to think."

"Are you sure?" A guilty expression crossed Lily's face.

"Absolutely." Eve flashed her a smile. "I'll see you at the Sorting." Once the redhead had disappeared through the doorway, she let out a sigh and pulled on her skirt nervously. She hoped to see Regulus somewhere. She hadn't told him of her plan to attend Hogwarts and wanted to surprise the Slytherin.

"Who are you?"

Evelyn looked up to see a bespectacled boy staring into the compartment, his hazel eyes wide in surprise. She pressed her lips into a line, trying not to smile as she matched Lily's descriptions in her head. This had to be Potter. Although, she had to admit he looked a bit more attractive than the redhead had detailed.

"Sorry," she feigned a look of confusion. "Is this the right train?" She looked down. "People dress so strangely here."

The boy's gaze softened as he carefully took a seat across from her, running a hand through his messy hair, which only proceeded to tousle it further. "Are you a muggleborn?"

Evelyn was spared from responding as another boy with grey eyes came hurtling through the doorway, nearly causing the glass to shatter as he slammed the door open.

"PRONGS! SAVE MEEE.." He leaped into Potter's lap, clinging to his neck as two more boys entered the compartment.

"He took my chocolate!" The accuser was a tall brunette, with scars that etched across his face. Eve's eyes widened as she took in his appearance.

"He did," the fourth boy confirmed, a small blonde whose voice was soft and eyes watery.

"Wormtail!" The grey-gazed boy looked betrayed. "How could you?" As he turned around to properly face his friend, his gaze caught Evelyn's and he frowned. "Who are you?"

"Nice manners," Evelyn retorted, already recognizing the boy's features. It had to be Sirius Black, Reg's older brother. She had heard all about how Sirius had abandoned his family that summer.

"My apologies," Sirius gracefully climbed down from James's lap, not looking the least embarrassed, and ran a hand through his messy curls. "Prince Charming, at your service."

Evelyn raised a skeptical eyebrow at his outstretched hand. "Not interested."

"Burn!" James offered the brown-haired boy, whom Evelyn had decided to be Remus Lupin, a high-five.

"Where are you from?" Remus shot Sirius a glare as he opened a new chocolate bar carefully, unfolding the wrapper bit by bit.

Evelyn smiled, a plan formulating in her mind. Scrunching up her eyes, she let out her best sob. "NOT HERE!"

The boys all tensed immediately, exchanging mixed expressions of shock and discomfort. Sirius made a hand gesture at James, mouthing the word crazy.

Evelyn threw her face into her arms, not trusting herself to keep a straight face. "I..I went to Beauxbatons.. but then I found out my boyfriend was cheating.. WITH A VEELA!" she wailed. She sat up abruptly, her face red and blotchy. "DO I LOOK UGLY TO YOU?"

There was a moment of awkward silence. James looked horrified while Peter ate the rest of Remus's chocolate happily.

"Well errr.." the bespectacled boy ran another hand through his black hair. "No..."

"Evelyn!"

She sat up as Severus appeared in the doorway with a furious expression, his dark eyes darting at the Marauders nervously.

"What do you think you're doing?"

"Wait," James looked between Evelyn and Severus with a disgusted expression. "You know Snivellus?"

Giving her brother a death glare, Evelyn stood and swung her bag over her shoulder, nearly decapitated Peter. She winced and sent him an apologetic look. "Well it was nice meeting the Marauders," she bounced cheerfully, all tears gone. "See you around."

Severus followed her as she darted out of the compartment, grabbing her arm harshly. "Just what do you think you're doing?" he hissed, flying spit on her face.

Evelyn rubbed her cheeks with her robes grumpily, creating wrinkles in the fabric. "Making friends Sev."

Her brother's gaze was murderous as a piece of hair fell into his mouth. "Those idiots are not your friends."

Evelyn rolled her eyes, walking quickly to find another empty compartment. "I know."
