Part One
'Ting ah ling, ah ling!!' it was the school bell, signifying that it was lunch and I had walked out of the exam room with the fear of failing Spanish. "Sharmin that test was hard, I am positive sure that I am failing, Miss Samsundar would not be please, look at the time, got to go, I will talk to you later." I said to Sharmin. "Adios amigo," Sharmin said, unaware of what was going to happen to me.
The smell of potato pie entised my nostril as I headed to the cafeteria to purchase this delicacy. However as I entered the cafeteria my nose started twitching as the smell of sweaty and smelly physical education students were lined up at the cafeteria to get a bite of something to eat. Finally, they left and my nose relaxed as it was able to smell the fresh air again.
"Hello good day," I exclaimed. "Can I have one potato pie please?”
The cafeteria woman, an African woman who was rather plumped looked at me with bewilderment. She wore a net on her head and her apron was stained with curry. Still gazing at me with an adorable smile. I could see some leftovers on her teeth which looked disturbing but I ignored it and smiled back.
She asked, “How was the exam?”
I said, “It was ‘ok!!!” but ‘ok’ was not good for me, I always had and attitude to excel and I wanted to get and A rather than a B or C.
She muttered, “Well at least you did your best!”
But she didn’t answer my question and my belly was grumbling. I needed something to eat!! And fast!!!
I was shocked at her reply, “We are all out of potato pies?”
Hungry as I was, I headed of to get a taxi to meet my mother in Princes Town. The cars moved quickly as they were all filled with passengers. Two hours had passed by quickly and still I was hungry but there was not a taxi in sight.
“Roar!!” It was the loud crackle of thunder. The rain began pouring. It was raining cats and dogs and I had hidden my hunger with the taste of rain drops.
Finally, an old blue Lancer stopped. As I opened the car door, I was glad to get out of the rain because I was shivering cold, an anticipating my mother’s arrival in Princes Town.
But I didn’t know what the future had in store for me………
